Starting a thread on them and the inner workings.
It might help keep you from trashing yours by over load.

Came home and want directly to the lathe to fix something from work.
But ant who.
The KitchenAid stand mixers have more power than the gears can handle.
All over the web people talk about it.
These things are expensive and should have better gears.
From what I can tell they are made from poor quality sintered metal.
That powdered metals pressed and formed into whatever you want.
Fist it was the plastic gear box busting.
They fixed that with an alloy one.
So the next weak point is the gears.
Leaving it at that for now.
More later.

I was disappointed with my KitchenAid. I used it with the strainer attachment for making tomato sauce. It dripped oil into the strained tomatoes! The oil thinned after some use and the seal couldn't hold it in. I replaced it with an Omcan, not a stand mixer but a dedicated tomato strainer.

One guy on YouTube has several because he can't afford to have one break down and not do his videos or whatever he does.
Not any sort of an expert on the mechanics of these things but keeps repairing them.
From what I have read when Hobart owned KitchenAid they were much better.
Now I think Whirlpool owns them.
Other people that don't overload them seem to have no problems.
Found another brand on line that uses gears to change the speed and power not the the DC motor.
This is a much more mechanically sound way of approaching things.
Just like in your automobile.

I have talked several people into getting a dedicated tomato straner.
None have regretted it and can't figure out what took them so long.
I got my KitchenAid stand mixer for less than half price at the outlet store.
Very happy with it for what I use it for.
I also went into it knowing it's limitations.

Where I used to work in Alaska there was a wee tiny lady that was 70 something or even 80 years old that was the baker in the kitchen.
She used to push a big Hobart mixer down a long hallway where it was stored and use it in the kitchen.
It was as tall as she was.
She had a nasty disposition but I got along with her just fine.
She worked those oilfield camps all her life and I even met her daughter that was also a cook up there.
One day the lady went home on R&R and never came back.
She died from cancer.
To this day I can hear her yelling at the lazy bums working in the kitchen.
She would tell me stories of how she would hide people's whisky in the kitchen when security was on the prowl looking for contraband.
We got along so well she would make special things for me and the camp on request.

I wonder if anyone has actually talked to these people about making a better quality gear set for products like the mixer.
I have spent countless hours on their site learning about gears.
They will make anything you want.
What if a person advertised a better gear for a product and sold them on line.
Rush gears once the main large order is requested really isn't that expensive.

I watched a video made by a lady that has been around for awhile using the stand mixer.
She had me at the edge of my chair shaking my fist like it was the Buffalo Bills losing the super bowl for the second time in a row.
Obviously has more money than she has common sense.
Flour all over the top of the top of the dough hook and running way too fast.
Then she sticks her fingers in while its running to get the flour off the top of the dough hook.
That would get her ran out of any professional kitchen.
The lady has a room with kitchen stuff as big as my house.

That reminds me of a guy I met a long time ago. He had a woodworking building built, next to his house, that was about twice the size of my house. It was filled with all of Delta's biggest and most expensive equipment. There were probably one or two pieces that he never even got around to using. The only thing he built were birdhouses, lots of them, all out of pine.

That reminds me of a show that was on PBS many years ago, before anyone and everyone could post on YouTube, no matter how incompetent. This lady had 4 large rings on each hand, and would handle things like dough and ground meat with them on, and just barely wipe her hands after handling raw meat, and things like that. It was on after something I would watch, and that's the only way I would watch any of it, because I hadn't gotten to turn it! My guess was that she, or a relative donated a large amount to PBS, on the condition that she got her own show!

On the stand mixer subject, I had a KA 6 qt burn out on me a couple of years ago, not quite 20 years old (I think 525w). It happened about 5 min. into a batch of bread dough. It didn't have an auto shut off, to prevent this, so I knew that whatever new mixer I got, I would make sure it had this. Turns out, the KA sold at that time had this, so that's what I got - 625w. I made hundreds of loaves of bread with that other, and no problems with the gears, just the burn out.

My old 4½ qt, 325w mixer, from '76, is still working for a friend I gave it to, when I wanted a larger model!
