Rebel Yell Question

#1

I am not a tomato addict with hundreds of varieties of seeds in storage like many of you but I do like to grow about 15 plants each year and I like to try at least one new variety each year.

Lately I keep hearing mention of Rebel Yell and I thought that I might like to give it a try.

What are your feelings on this variety? I looked online and many seed vendors are sold out so I think that it's probably popular.

What do you think?

Rebel Yell is a very good tomato. It is a large plant with pink beefsteak type fruit. It is a very flavorful well-balanced tomato that has good production for me here in the Midwest. It's got that all around classic goodness of a pink tomato.

It's a great tomato and did well for me the few years I grew it- and we're in the same area of the country. Definitely worth a try!

Forgot to mention that I always grow Pink Brandywine, Suddeth. Is Rebel Yell significantly different? Remember I only have space for 15 plants.

I always grow a Brandywine (something) and I think that I enjoy Rebel Yell as much or even more than the Brandywine. Of course things are different from year to year. But to honestly answer your question, no they are not 'significantly' different. I do have some seed if you would like to try it.

Rebel Yell has become a favorite in my tomato garden. Since RY is a stabilized cross between Stump of he World and Bear Claw it is different from the Brandywines, but has the qualities of the good tasting pink Brandies. For me it is on the sweet side and more productive than many of the Brandywines. I received seeds from either Blane or Dean several years ago (my memory is beginning to fade) and it was an immediate hit. Go for it Brownie.

Rebel Yell is a good one. Gave me larger and slightly sweeter tomatoes than Brandywine. The taste is great, very rich, and the fruits are very pretty.

Rebel Yell.
Worth, that is really for Area 51 as it has nothing to do with tomatoes.

I finally ordered Rebel Yell to try this year because of all the rave reviews. I avoided it in the past because there was just no room for another "Yell"ow tomato. Imagine my surprise when I found out it's PINK! :D

I liked it, good production and flavor. It's a pink because the skin is clear, but flesh was reddish for me.

Grew that one in 2017. For a relatively new variety, surprised to see so many who have grown it. But like myself, I note that all agree that it's a good one.

It was stabilized by a guitar playing rocker, hence the name of a hit song.

All of this is good to hear because last year a kind soul gave me some seeds to try but all my tomato slots had been filled for the season. Rebel Yell has a slot already assigned for this year though! Yeeeee Haaaaaaaawwwwwww!

My question is which is better, Stump of the World or Rebel Yell?

Lol! That's a tough question, but I will answer honestly. More often than not Stump of the World comes in 1st place in my yard but both of them are on my top 10 list. (Note: top ten list is about 25 varieties).

I wonder what Blane is up to these days? Do you know if he is still breeding tomatoes? Had the cutest red headed girls, too. And Dean, too. Last I had heard Dean was working with Maranna's.

I just posted Blane's site on the tomato seed vendors list yesterday so it looks as though he is still playing with tomatoes.
