I don’t know if Pruden’s Purple is the ideal BLT tomato. Might be too subtle tasting and melting with the texture, I think Pruden’s purple shines on its own, sliced with a little salt on top.

I’ve got some nice Red Barn tomatoes out on the vine that I have in mind for a BLT. Maybe Cuostralee will be a tasty BLT tomato as well. I think a good dose of acidity in a tomato is helpful thing when it comes to a BLT. Pruden’s purple might lack the necessary acidity.

Hopefully, there will be several more opportunities to rate various BLT garden tomatoes.

@MissS My white bread I have been using has 220mg of Sodium per slice, so this way is actually much better for your low sodium diet too!

Yeah, buddy! But The Gotchberg Household/BLT R-n-D Division has the talented @Mark_Thompson squarely in its sights...

Just spit-ballin', here, but might a très sharp knife render that there BEAUT into bite-size portions, held together with toothpicks, with an olive garnish on top ala MUFFALETTA?

Mmm I like that idea. Maybe a cherry tomato garnish instead of an olive? Try Honeycomb or Sungold just to get another color in there

There are GWR Cherry varieties, but yeah...added colors.

While the saladetteesque Mountain Magic (https://www.google.com/search?q=mountai ... s-wiz-serp) wouldn't add another color, it is the Taste Test Winner in these here parts, five (5) years running.

Prudence (Pruden's) Purple, from my garden, is way too good to put on a BLT, or any other sandwich. I agree, it is not the firmest of tomatoes, but it is an all-time top 10 in my book, out of about 2,000 varieties trialed.

I also consider it the most beautifully colored tomato, a very dark pink with a glowing satiny sheen.

And then, what's in store for 2025? To go along with...

Bacon Lettuce and This

...the hunt is on, in my garden this year, to work on completing my trilogy of BLT tomatoes. I already have the red. I hope to select the best pink beefsteak from a fairly large assortment of selections made from natural crosses in my garden. To be called...

Bacon Lettuce and That

More work will be required to find a good yellow/gold/orange selection, as I don't have as much to work with, and they are only at about the F3 to F4 stage. To be called...

Bacon Lettuce and the Other Thing

In my estimation, A good BLT tomato needs a healthy dose of acidity to cut through the fattiness of the bacon and mayo. Black Krim in addition to the prominent acidity has an almost soy sauce/worchestershire sauce flavor profile as if the slice of tomato was briefly dipped in a bowl of these sauces. A lot of the subtle goodness of Pruden’s Purple gets lost or overwhelmed by the bold flavors and fatty nature of bacon.

To get the big complex taste I go with one slice of a very sweet tomato (usually a pink) and a slice of a very tart tomato, like Aunt Gertie's Gold. No one tomato can ever match the flavors of two tomatoes combined.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but seeing the Bacon Lettuce and This is yer exclusive Brain Child, are my two (2) plants the 1st to be grown in WESconsin EVAH...?

It gets better; I'm bequeathing one of 'em to the owner of Wolf Subzero (https://www.subzero-wolf.com/), a HS/University pal.

Could this be the start of something BIG, you's know, like, something The Gotch could monetize...?)

There are about half a dozen Wisconsinites who have received seeds, from me, in the past few years. But, I don't know if any have trialed it. Your two plants should both be PLs.

It is not easy to monetize an OP tomato.

Maybe I'll work on creating a hybrid cucumber just for Packer fans.
