Real Baby weather here in my part of Oz, 300,000 without power, including us and we maybe 24 to 48 hrs before we get it back! Trees down all over the place so wind more than rain the real issue.

Re: How's your weather?
Big, big wind yesterday. Just a big dry front pushing in from the northwest. Not a cloud in the sky, but scary amounts of wind. Top half of a mature water oak twisted off in the wind and blew right onto the driveway where my son parks his truck and I park mine. Twenty linear feet or more 18” diameter green and heavy water oak would have crushed, annihilated both trucks, but mine’s in the shop and the son took his truck to work. Dodged a bullet. My truck is 24 years old and I’d get next to nothing for the insurance money, but would have to try and find a suitable replacement. Son’s truck is new and the depreciation on insurance, yikes.
I got the big saw going and cut up the tree to free up the driveway. Massive limbs crashed down around me as the wind roared while I worked the chainsaw. One cypress top crushed my irrigation pump set up that draws water from the lake, feet from where I was working the saw, heard the crash behind me. Scary stuff. Wind Picked up a heavy stacked pile of chairs and tossed them right by me. Jumped out of my skin. I Had to hide in the garage for a bit until it calmed down some. A month ago, we had the surprise Hurricane Nicholas that thoroughly trashed the yard and this was a sequel. One of these days, the wind will finally destroy every tree on the lot and my troubles will come to an end. Seriously, Grateful no one was hurt and the vehicles weren’t on location. Son doesn’t always work every Thursday.

Re: How's your weather?
It was the big Halloween cold front.
Almost like clockwork.
We got a ton of rain before it hit.
At least tropical force winds all day.
Couldn't find wind speed on line but I know my winds and how to calculate speeds.
Things like the whole large tree trunk moving.

Re: How's your weather?
We got 3/4" of rain yesterday, less than the possible 2" forecasted but we'll take it. Fall is the most dry season here. There's fog this morning as somewhat cooler air comes in. Lows will now be in the 40's, not 50's.
On the 10 day forecast I see a low of 37 for Nov 5. Usually by now we've had a slight taste of frost but nothing. Our first killing frost is usually Nov 1-10 so we just might be getting something. Next week will be the time to pick the last peppers.

@worth1 Our 2.1” rain came at least 24 hours before the big winds hit. We got 2 inches between 9:30 and 10:30 on Wednesday, then nothing but blue skies and gentle breezes that afternoon and overnight. Big winds hit around lunchtime Thursday and peaked around 3pm.

Timing of the winds. Times shown are GMT, so we are 6 hours behind that. 1800 hours GMT is noon or 1200 hours local time. Peak gust at Freeport 44 knots or 50 mph or 81 km/hour. We live on a relatively long lake that funnels Northwest winds. The trees act as a canyon of sort. Our shoreline is essentially a point on the lake that gets battered in Northwesterly winds. There’s some sort of odd physics involved. Some acceleration over and above the surrounding terrain. The neighbor on the leeward side of the lake directly across from me, sort of in the shadow of the tree canyon, barely had a leaf fall. Strangest thing ever.

Re: How's your weather?
It had been very dry here for weeks until we suddenly got 3" of rain in about eight hours Monday evening. Now today we have another big storm coming through which was predicted to dump up to 4" of rain with high winds and coastal flooding. My area in the suburbs west of DC has been fortunate, with just 1.4" of rain in the gauge on my deck and no significant wind so far. Other areas haven't been so lucky -- significant flooding in Old Town Alexandria, southwest DC, Annapolis and other areas along the tidal Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. The gauge along the Potomac/Washington Channel near the Jefferson Memorial passed "major flood" stage of 7' a little before 3:00pm (minor flood stage is 4.2', moderate 5.3', record 11.1').
Still no sign of temperatures cold enough for frost on the extended forecast. Our average last frost date is October 22, so we're already on borrowed time. Thanks to the extended mild weather, we're still picking peppers and tomatoes and are enjoying our best fall lettuce and spinach crop in years.

Re: How's your weather?
Temperature is actually rising, nearing midnight - up to 60° now, but it's supposed to level off. Supposed to get to 67° tomorrow. It rained 1.24° here today - more in some areas, less in others, as it was spotty, but the wind was blowing wicked! Sustained winds over 20 mph much of the day, with gusts over 40. Already dropped considerably. Next week lows getting down in the low 40s for the first time this season, and one forecast has a 38° for next Thursday. So I have to get those plants inside for good!

Re: How's your weather?
We usually get the leftovers of systems on the east coast, but are being spared this time by a 'blocking high' that won't let that low come up north over the water. The typical thing for a blocking high is that we get trapped in a low pressure system for days or weeks with endless rain or fog. This time we're drying out a bit, thank goodness. Temperatures above zero, not a lot of wind, it's a perfect fall day today with sunshine and forecast high of 10C/50F. There was a lick of frost on the corner of the greenhouse roof this morning, and expected to go to -3C inland tonight, so that will be our first major frost of the season.

43 here too.
The other day one guy said, "well it's going to be hot and humid tomorrow".
I explained to him no it's going to be cool and dry.
Really?
Yes the wind is out of the north.
The guy from California was amazed at the thunderstorms.
Never seen one before.

The guy from California had also never seen a sky so blue.
Being from Burbank.
I can say he left that area and has no intention of ever going back.
He loves the weather and has no complaints about anything.
Texas really is a most beautiful state.

Re: How's your weather?
I’m glad I’m back in my home state. Funny, my son that’s been in the northeast for years now living here and I were just talking about the weather differences place to place. Here, morning starts off at 43 degrees and it will be 75 by the afternoon. That big temperature swing isn’t so typical for places up in the northeast. Our thunderstorms are certainly more intense here than there. He says if it is a rainy day there, then it’s rainy all day and when sunny, then sunny all day. Not so schizophrenic, the weather in the northeast, that’s his take. Might rain and spit all day and amount to an inch. Here, it rains for 30 minutes and 1.5” falls, then the sun comes out 10 minutes later. We definitely get some dramatic weather.
I do love our Fall weather. I just need sunshine more than anything. I must have an invisible colony of photosynthetic cells under my skin to support. Not a fan of anything dreary, especially cold and dreary. Feel like I will die after a couple of damp, cloudy days.

Re: How's your weather?
we had our first killing frost earlier in the week, so that is it for any peppers or tomatoes that were still in ground.
this will be our last day of 50 degree weather. forecast over the next few days has highs dropping into the low 40s at best.
lows in the lower 30s in combination with precipitation will be bringing rain/snow showers to the area making for some slippery
roads. snow is acoming. lake superior has been relatively warm for the big lake. we could be getting heaps of snow this winter.
the climate here is controlled by the lake. its like living in a different world compared to the land of the trolls below the bridge
in lower michigan. same state, different worlds.
