Speaking of storms and such, the highest 48 hr fall in last weeks Qld, NSW floods was at Doon Doon, about 1/2 an hour's drive south of the Qld border. 1040 mm or 3.5 feet of rain

Holy cow, 3.5 feet, that's what we get here for an entire year!

Mid 20sF/-4°C here today, 3°F/-16°C overnight in (hopefully) the last single digit low of the season.

Warm-up follows immediately: Sunday (>50°F/10°C) and >60°/15.6°C by Wednesday.

I, the Garlic itching to break the surface, and the composting bins wanting to thaw and...um...fester, are more than ready!

I got home and put my pepper plants in the kitchen window so they don't freeze tonight.
Not a lot of light but it won't hurt till the freeze is over.
Got a peanut planting experiment in a few days no rush on that.

For all the rainstorms already this winter with high winds gusting over 100 kph, they are calling this next one a "winter hurricane" and expecting it to be much worse. Gusting up to 120 kph here and 140 kph in some areas. Looks like areas south of us will also get twice the rain.

Jeepers @Bower, my condolences; yer just getting hammered continually.

Here it bottomed out at 2°F/-17°C this morning, but will climb to a balmy 23°F/-5°C this afternoon with snow showers expected tonight.

That'll be doubled tomorrow to ~48°F/~9°C.

Glass half empty?

One less hour to enjoy it...

snow, and blowing snow got me stuck in a drift on my road last night on the way home from work when i tried to move over for another
vehicle coming from the opposite direction. i should have just stopped before encountering the drift and let the other guy pass. shoulda,
coulda, woulda. visibility wasn't very good though. this is the stretch of road going through a hay field on each side.fortunately for me,
the neighbor there was just coming down his drive in his truck with a plow. he was able to give me a tug out. we got maybe 3 or 4 inches
of snow is all, but that wind was causing all kinds of problems. today was better. we started the day off around 5 degrees, and eventually
got to 10 or 12 degrees. light snow early, but then the sun came out, and stayed out most of the day. maybe more snow over night, but then
it starts warming up. we might see a 40 degree day this coming week woohoo! right about now, i get sooooo tired of winter.

Thunderstorms rattling around us, no rain yet, but hopeful. Don't want the layer of thumbnail size hail that the folks have had though

Crawling out of the cold snap as we speak.
May or may not be the last freeze.
Peppers spent yesterday out in the sun even though it was in the 50's.
Back in the house to stay warm under the heater vent.
This allowed the plants to be in a warm dark place to dry out the cold damp soil some.
Cold damp soil in the dark is a recipe for disaster.

We wound up with 11mm/0.44 inch out of the thunderstorms, the folks got 32mm/1.28 inches. Some of the hail was still lying quite deep until after 10 am.

Neighbors walking past yesterday as I was shoveling the remaining mountain of snow from last Monday onto the closest raised beds: "Watering your garden?"

Put out-n-filled the bird baths yesterday and they didn't freeze overnight.

a definite uptick in the weather department for the coming week. we will be seeing a 40 degree day or two.
that may not sound like much to many of you, but we haven't had a 40 degree day since last november. no
sign of snow in sight which is good because i broke my tractor, and have found out replacement parts are REALLY
hard to get right now. the repair place is going to cobble something together that is supposed to work.
i drove down my road saturday where i got stuck friday night. it was broad day light, and clear, still windy, really windy.
the wind was whipping snow off the bank, and as i reached that stretch of road, everything disappeared. i couldn't see any
thing, but white. it was only a short stretch, but when all visual reference is taken away, you have to stop.

john dee has a nice journal article describing in between up in the keweenaw. if you want to read it, go to johndee.com, and
click on journal. he has pictures you can look at.

We broke the daily heat record briefly yesterday when it went to 12.8 C but that soon plummeted and rain turned to snow pellets in that gusty wind. We actually didn't have it as bad here compared to some of the earlier storms this year, but winds clocked in at Cat 1 hurricane force at 5 weather stations in our area. Anyway the day after has been just windy and cold with some jazzy flurries. There's not much on the ground, as the rain took away most of what we had before.

Giant ice cold rain.
My neighbor came over and told me my truck window was down.
He didn't have my latest phone number but we took care of that.
I never leave my window down unless it rains.

One really nice day, yesterday. It was 75 degrees. sunny and calm. I put in 7 hours of yard work, at home and at a neighbor's. Today, I'm not as sore as I thought I would be.

The next 7 days look like upper 40's to mid 50's at day, low to upper 30's at night. It won't be 7 hour yard work days, for awhile.

I always keep my jackets and one really warm arctic coat in the truck for good reason.
Yesterday was really cold with the wind blowing.
