When they make their chip, chip sound they can fool me into thinking I hear a hummingbird as they are very similar.

@brownrexx Roseate Spoonbils are common birds here along the coast. It would be strange not to see them when I’m out in the marsh in my kayak. People tend to confuse them with flamingoes. Flamingoes are not native to Texas.

The birdlife is certainly an attraction while kayaking.

Just one bird pic from October - it is "the other woodpecker" with black back and red head, I didn't get a better shot than this so still a mystery, what kind it is. The usual woodpecker aka Flicker is often around the garden and lately being chased off for pecking at my eave. This other woodpecker is less commonly around. The sound of them in the woods is eerie.. first time I heard it I thought someone was quietly hammering nails and building something in the wooooods. Went to look and found.. a bird.

This morning in a neighbor's driveway this black vulture struck the "horaltic pose." Also this morning a gaggle of white geese showed their displeasure at my presence by honking loudly as they crossed the road.

This is Clear Lake, which has a large park adjacent to it (with a nice walking path). A stone's throw from the Johnson Space Center.

The Missouri Conservation Commission announced recently that the Loess Hills Bird Refuge near Mound City, Missouri had a record number of Bald Eagles in residence last week. A one day count was at 883 eagles. This is about twenty miles from my home. Millions of geese and ducks fly through this area every year. The Bald Eagles help clean up the mess left behind. We have about twenty local full time birds in our little village which is on the Missouri River.

The vultures have taken up residence at the dumpsters behind the Jalisco meat market and restaurant in my neighborhood.
Look at the one roosting on the far away roof.
Vultures like Mexican food.

We just had our first big dump of snow, and the conifers are piled high with it since it isn't windy. I was looking out the window now that the snow stopped, and I saw two ravens flying among the tall trees. Seemed to be a challenge, can you land on a middle branch without dumping yourself three times your weight in snow! I was very impressed, they seemed to be able to nail it!

Corvids are known to play; you may have seen the videos of crows sliding down snowy rooftops, only to go up and do it again.

Barred Owl, on the roost right by the front door of the house, asleep. Sleep all day, party all night. Barred owls seem to prefer Cypress trees for roosts around here.

2 doves, 1 woodpecker, 7 pairs of cardinal, 4 pairs of blue jays, many juncos and chickadees and 4213 sparrows. 3 dozen geese and ducks on the pond and a partridge in a - sorry couldn't help myself.

Barred owl kills an anhinga at dawn. Eats its fill, then minutes after, these two Crested Caracara move in for the scraps. Crested Caracara are the bird featured on the flag of Mexico. Frequently Scavengers, just like our own National bird, the Bald Eagle.

The white geese were blocking the road this morning and why were they all standing on one leg?

Are the two shorter plants in the background, right, a type of palm or? They're cute!
