Good eating. Healthy looking crappie. Talked to a crappie guide the other day. His day job is involves a technical aspect of maintaining commercial property. Crappie guiding is a side gig. Only found out about this sideline when I noticed the Minn Kota in the bed of his company vehicle. Guides on Lake Conroe among others.

He says livescope is almost unfair to the fish. BTW, he uses it. But, it is so sensitive he can put the crappie jig on the nose of the fish.
Yours truly and my fishing partner and good buddy won the inaugural annual Lake Jackson Bass fishing tournament. Tough, windy day where big fish were hard to find. We Beat 12 other 2 person teams including my daughter and her BF that got third place. They should have won it all, but lost the big fish, estimated at 8#, of the day at the boat, naturally, neither thought to bring a net.

My 4.48# bass was second to the big bass of the day at 4.7#, but our three fish total beat second by about 3/4#. Super fun to be on the podium even if it is a dinky tournament.

Went out from a place called Corinella yesterday, picked up 6 pinkies snapper and a flathead.
My understanding is that flathead, which are delicious and offer sold as crumbed or battered tales, are only found around Australia and the Island of New Guinea. They live on the sea floor and ambush their prey. Most species are relatively small, under 20 inches length but two can double that, pushing 40 inches and 15 lb. This one is only 33 cm long.

Whoz what good fishing, where I usually fish in the sea of southern Spain where there are rocks and seafood areas, there are usually also snapper, they like seafood a lot, I used hermits as bait, unfortunately there are less and less, without a doubt it is my Favorite fish in the kitchen, I remember years ago when there were very large pieces of snapper and some were given it was super exciting the fight, it is a fish with great strength, thanks for sharing the photos.

[mention]Nico[/mention] fishing here are this summer has been very hot and miss with La Nina about. These snapper are starting to get ready to leave our bags and estuaries and may even do so this weekend with the Antarctic blast we are forecast to get. The kids had a ball. We headed out again yesterday to a totally different result, coming home empty handed. Still picked up a few, just tiny.

Trying to match the hatch, which is wind blown tent and tussock caterpillars. Instant gratification fishing. Rising bluegills fighting over faux caterpillars.

Got on the water 3 times this week on a local lake. Spawn is just starting in my area.

Still fishing... It's been a great Spring here in the Ohio valley.

I'm fortunate to have world class crappie fishing here near home and world class Tuna fishing just a short drive away.

All too often, sometimes after a 3 hour fight the line gives an odd tug and you wind in just the tuna head. Disappointing...

Got a call from my buddy.
He said he had purchased us a boat.
23 feet long and over 8 feet wide.
He's driving to Galveston today to pick it up.
He has some modifications he wants me to do on it.

I'm so beat up and tired from stress and work I had to turn down a trip to the coast this weekend.
Blast it all.
Been getting up at 4 AM and like today I got home at 7.
The other day it was almost 9.
Almost all of it trouble shooting other people's mistakes.
Seems like that's all I do is trouble shoot.
Heard the Redfish are coming on strong on the coast.

Sounds like you are long overdue to wet a line. Been a couple of weeks for me too, but looking forward to Fall fishing.

Tied up four of my favorite bullets for fall saltwater fish. Size 4 Borski Bonefish Slider. No bonefish around here, but redfish, speckled trout, flounder and even picky sheepshead will eat these.

Nice work karstopography ... I've been out several times in the last couple of weeks but haven't caught anything worth bragging about. Water temps are still in the mid 60's here in the Ohio valley. I finally found a few yesterday but need some cooler water for the crappie to really start biting. Beautiful time of the year to be on the water.

Adding to the family. These last through several fish or more in general. What usually gets them in the end is either losing one on a fish in razor sharp oyster shell or to corrosion from saltwater. These are carbon steel Gamakatsu hooks, extremely sharp, but subject to rust in saltwater. Stainless steel hooks are relatively soft and the points tend to roll or bend striking hard objects like oyster shell. More difficult to sharpen as well stainless steel is.

Redfish destroy flyhooks by bending them open if the fish is big enough and the leader strong enough.
Speckled trout and flounder destroy flies with natural hair and feathers through the action of sharp teeth. Synthetic fibers hold up much better.

I think it’s about time I put away the vise and grab a rod.

Redfish, speckled trout and flounder all eat a lot of little baitfish and shrimp. At times, redfish stomachs will be distended with dozens of 1.5” shrimp or shad. Match the hatch.

Anchovies. Predator fish like them. I like them on pizza, but these are meant for speckled trout.
