Re: How's your weather?
our whole summer so far has been a waiting game. waiting for it to warm up.
we have had a couple 90 plus degree days which is too hot, and a few days in the 80s including today,
but other wise it has been mostly in the 70s during the day which is ok in and of itself. night time temps
continue to dip into the 50s, and even 40s. tomatoes, and peppers are stuck. they just aren't growing much
at all. not much rain in june slowed them down. currently getting more needed rain, but need some sustained heat to go
along with the moisture. still time, but you don't want to fall too far behind here. everybody i talk to is complaining about
the garden being slow to grow this year.
stay tuned

I went out with the thermometer and found 97° by the lake and 98° by the garden. 100° on the driveway in all the shade, this a couple hours ago.

Re: How's your weather?
@rxkeith you're having what would be a normal summer for us, with those 70's days and borderline 50's nights. "Stuck" is a good word for what tomatoes and peppers think about it. Even with steady 70's (which we don't really get, except for maybe a couple of weeks in July) there are still a lot of unripe tomatoes in September, growing outdoors.
It's great setting weather though, on the plus side. When it does warm up for you, there should be plenty to beef up.
I found that covering them at night with a bit of row cover really helped to ripen those outdoor tomatoes.

New record today in Southern Colorado of 107˚F, smashing the old record of 105˚F. We have had almost no rain over the last couple of months but tomorrow looks promising.

Re: How's your weather?
Temps, here, have been just about ideal, low to mid 80's in the day. low to mid 60's at night. Absolutely perfect weather would be about 3 degrees cooler in the day, and about 3 degrees warmer at night, so I can't complain.
Virtually no rain means lots of watering until everything is finally mulched in. And, mostly bluebird skies may mean sun scald, unless things turn hazy. Just about all berry bushes are being picked clean. But, I look at it that those are mostly for the birds. If they leave any for me, that's a bonus.

@Tormato we're having similar conditions and I dread the sunscald which was really bad last summer too. I was just wondering, is it at all helpful to pick at breaker stage under those bluebird skies, and ripen off the vine?

Re: How's your weather?
Sunscald can easily happen in the green stage, on the big flat-shouldered beefsteaks. One of these years, perhaps I'll monitor the varieties with the darkest green shoulders to see if they get less, the same, or more, sunscald.
Luckily, I have many experimental round saladettes and cherries, this year, which likely will not be effected much, if at all. And, if the drought continues, those are the only conditions, here, where the birds start pecking fruit. Because of that, I would pick at the fist sign of a color change.

@Sue_CT Hail and gardens don’t generally mix well. How long did that hail last? My wife is with a major home insurer and said you might need to have someone out to look at the roof. Hail that size can damage roofs.

Re: How's your weather?
Just a few minutes. I have a roof over my garage that I can easily see from the second floor that is only one story high. I will look at it tomorrow. Also have a neighbor who actually took that photo that had a contractor working at her house so maybe he can check hers also. Thanks

Re: How's your weather?
Feels like too many days in a row with temps in the 95-101F range.
I woke up at 5:40 am and worked in the garden, watering and mulching mostly, before it got too hot, and got home in time to tune into the latest must-watch tv.
It'll be down to 88F by 7 pm, so I may go out there again later on.
My cat has a nice window seat where he can nap undisturbed all day. Given a choice, he'll follow me outside to the patio in midday and then turn around and go back indoors as soon as he's had a few bites of cat grass.

Not that hot here - reached 92° today, and very humid. Another one of those storms that came through, and pummeled some areas, but didn't even register here on the rain guage. Another 90+ day tomorrow, with less humidity, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: How's your weather?
Been rather wet and mild here in South East Oz so far this winter. Typical winter maximums around the 10 to 14C, (50 to 57F) with the occasional day one or two C lower or higher. Frosts so far have been virtually non-existant, with just a thin coating on the cars if cold enough. Once or twice we have had a hint on the grass, but for most of the time I think it has been to wet. Have barely gone below 0C/32F yet. Making life a bit difficult for the harvest of the Oca, they could really do with a couple of nights colder to get tubers forming properly from what little I understand about them.

Re: How's your weather?
Well . coldest ive felt it up this way for quite some time!. Mindyou still persisting with a late plantout of Tomato Seedlings due tohome affairs ..
Went for a hike up whats called "The Narrows" here in Central Queensland to a place called "Maria Inlet " with a mate for a two day Fishing session which turned out one day only due to COLD!! COLD!! Cold!!.
Left here early Saturday morning with Mates Boat with a South Westerly blowing which followed us all the way up there , with the Boat sucking in that cold wind!!..
I was rugged up to the hilt bodywise but not the legs and thats where it hit , Havent felt my ankles so cold for ages ..
That night rugged up with everything i had was okay till the old Prostate nudged me wanting another Pee which made warming again torture .
Thatg persisted four five times during the night tilll Daybreak where we cooked Brekky and tail between the Legs afterwards made a run for home lol.
Would have done so earlier but for a section of the River called "Ramsies Crossing " which dries up as the tides runs out and haveta wait near another six hours before one can cross to head towards home.
Was going to Fish closer to home but it was colder closer to home than where we left from!!..
And i like my Winters herre too lol..
