Is it really hard to change the numbering to individual threads? Worth alone could do15000 threads! I can see "refer to post # 2,467,892"

What other side?

We are moving to our new site today. We will be shut down for awhile while this takes place. Be sure to enable the admin to email you thru your control panel. See the tutorial at the bottom of the forum. Directions are also posted in the general forum.

The more I read this and think about it the idea of each post having its own unique number is not such a bad idea. But I like it only if can get to the number easily by some method such as typing in search so you get to the thread as well. Above you said you can click on the number of the post to isolate it but I am talking about actually finding it when someone else refers you to that post but doesn't provide a link.
I initially preferred only numbering posts in each thread uniquely if it is possible since as fast as posts are accumulating in just these few days I would think the individual post numbers could get pretty high. Within several months posts would be in the thousands or tens of thousands or more. Even though they are in order in each thread with gaps in between it can be mind boggling to contemplate searching for post 20,367 or higher, for example, in a given thread! Much easier to find a smaller number like 67 or such in a thread.
But if it is easy to access an individual post once you have the number then this seems good too. As has been pointed out the posts will still be numbered in order, but will eventually be just very high numbers with gaps.
I see the merits of both, so whatever works best for all I can live with!
