Thanks for the reminder. I never use it on actively growing stuff. The patties I'll be shoveling up will have been dry a good while.

No stables around but I wouldn't use horse manure anyway. I learned the hard way a long time ago how much weed seed there is in that.

Not just weed seed if they are fed hay which most are there goes your garden for that year and many years to come...

There are two things I need to do at this point (did it this weekend actually) in my climate. One it to plant the garlic, and the other to turn in some pelleted manure in all the beds. This is something that people used to do, but now seem to have forgotten, and is imo very important for quality strong growth next season, if you use mostly organic methods that is. The manure needs to reach 10+cm under the soil in autumn, you lose nitrogen over winter, but the P and humic acids don't really travel, you want it decomposing where most of the roots will be at, and that is the combo that will be the base of those strong stems and high vigor.
