Some day when my sugar maples are big and tall I'll be thanking you for this. Question: How long do I have to wait until they're older than me?

Feb 1st
Boiling the first 5 gallons from 1 Sugar Maple. I tapped 3 Wild Cherry about 5 days ago and no sap...
Tapped 3 Black Walnuts yesterday, but haven't checked them yet.

I looked around the internet and didn't find that cherry tapping was common... some folks were doubtful if it would be good or maybe poisonous from the cyanogenic compounds in the cherry tree, others said they didn't produce enough sap to bother.
Black Walnuts otoh, come recommended! Hope you get some juice.

A friend from Quebec a couple years ago, gave me a couple "oil cans" of maple syrup... and showed me to fry eggs in (real) Maple Syrup with a dash of butter...
My fork tasted like heaven!

Left to right
1) water at GD for 1 gallon ($1) made coffee...
2) pure sugar maple sap tapped at 10 gallons ($?)
3) first outdoor wood fire boil ends up with 1 gallon ($?)
4) indoor boil to finish syrup tomorrow, hopefully a recycled Jim Beam liter bottle full.
