@Cornelius_Gotchberg I think you probably are right! I need to convert those hint km's to actual viewable spatial distances on the map a few times before they will stick to my mind.
I moved to a new school in the middle of the school year when I was in 5th grade, the new school was ahead of ours, had already started with fractions in math and I had no idea what was going on. I was too shy to ask questions, and to top things off I had not yet been diagnosed for glasses, so I couldn't see the blackboard! The fear of not understanding turned something off in my math brain parts, and I never really caught up. It's very strange, when I got to algebra later on, I could understand the concepts perfectly when they were explained, but I had a terrible time applying them to a new problem. There went any hopeful career in astronomy!

Yesterday's 1st pick was EGYPT, the Go-To when I don't have a clue.
The 2nd was MADAGASCAR, which cleared the path to The Promised Land!

@Cornelius_Gotchberg Yesterday, second pick was Zambia. First pick was Liberia. Africa has a lot of countries and if Iβm completely clueless about the shape from the git go, I tend to go in that direction for first guess.

Husband has relatives there, but upon closer inspection of the map, I was surprised to learn that it was physically more attached to the country below it than the one above. So much to learn.

I was surprised when I was correct, because the silhouette maps did not look much like the shapes of the colored google maps, was just trying to move the dial a bit closer.
