I looked on the Staub website thinking I could find a bargain.
Not gonna happen.
On sale from $600 to $419.99.
7 quart enameled oval dutch oven.
If I paid that much money I'd have to put it behind a glass case along with the Hope Diamond and never use it.
You'd think it came with armed security.

Sometimes you can find better deals on ebay but it is still incredibly pricey.

I need another dutch oven cooking kettle or frying pan like I need a raccoon with rabies.
It's ridiculous that I'm even considering it at all.

Yes, it is pricey as all get out, but watch at yard sales or auctions as many do not offer or bid on the Staub as it is not as commonly known as say La Crueset ( and even some of that goes cheaper than you would think). Fantastic cookware, though not for everyone. Just like cast iron, for us the old griswold and such are the best and do not have to be pricey either. Old fella that used to live near the hospital showed us what to do to bring back rusty old cast iron easily. Wonderful old guy, he knew more than anyone else I knew of about CI and history, and shared the knowledge freely with people all over when asked. Went to his memorial service and meant many he had helped through the years. Great person, never pushy, just gave freely of himself. Still miss great old people like that, that helped others.

Losing a lot of knowledgeible old timers that knew from real life and doing.

Sorry, a bit off topic there. Buried a friend today.

Julianna, if you want a good decent dutch oven that is lower priced, watch the sales at Aldi's, their CI isgood and reasonably priced. Check the CI out there, see if the weight/size is good for you and the colors and so on. Good luck and happy hunting.

Given the state of the economy in 2023, I am more likely to get a raccoon with rabies than I am to get any of that beautiful cookware.
But that's okay, by the time I can afford it I'll know what or what not to buy. ;)

Thank you! I am sorry for your loss. A lot is being lost with the older generations.

Yes I'm sorry for your loss too @Danny
I too lost an old friend last week I had known for 23 years.
I met him as a kid around 20 or so when I was around 40.
He died of a heart attack.

I am sorry for your loss, Danny, and hope you feel better soon. I bought my first piece of Le Crueset at Marshalls, a 5 qt round dutch oven. I believe it was a second but couldn't see why. It last years and I still have it although replaced it eventually after i started a fire in it. Put oil in it to heat, went to the basement to get a can of tomatoes, took too long and the oil was on fire when I got back into the kitchen. Easty to put out, but the glaze on the pot was never the same again. Still, you can sometimes find pieces at similar stores, so it pays to just keep your eyes open for them.

Sorry for you loss!

I love Le Creuset cookware. The outlet mall over in NYS used to have a Le Creuset's '2nds' area in the back and I got to know a woman who worked there. We'd go over during a sale time and she'd pick me out the best 2nd she could find. She told me early on to never buy the same color twice - it would limit my options - so that's what we did. I have a colorful collection of pots and casseroles. She no longer works there and the store is no longer an outlet - it's just a store - I always wonder where their 2nds go now.

I was lucky enough to find a brand new casserole on Ebay once; person got it as a wedding gift and didn't like it. Some other pieces that I've picked up on Ebay were used, but I still love them.

Thanks about your condolences everyone.
The guy was a really sweet guy too.
I fist met him back in 2000 on a job
Lost contact and we met again about 4 years ago.
That happens a lot in my trade.

Now about cookware.
Demographics has a lot to do with what you pick up in thrift stores and yard sales around here or anywhere for that matter.
Everything I see is cheaper non stick stuff wore out years ago.
Or cheap thin aluminum.
Definitely nothing of the nice fancy stuff.
Not even cast iron.

There are many new subdivisions going up with the type folks that might possibly have these things but not willing to drive around and look.
The people of my social class know what they have and worked their tails off saving up for it.
Not likely to give it away in a yard sale.
I have seen some enameled cast iron in years past but it was all crazed.
Crazed means the enamel has cracked.
This can and will occur if heated up on high with any kettle or skillet.
I start mine off in graduations of heat so this doesn't happen.

Feel free to talk about anything cookware is concerned including utensils.

Lastly I heard on the news this morning about Tupperware having financial difficulties.

I've got more stuff than I have room.
Sometimes it gets lost.
Today I found some stuff that got lost.
The big white marble one the pestle was dropped and broke dopped and broke again.
I have some black marble somewhere to make a new one but for the time being it's lost.
