I love that movie haven't seen it in years.

I couldn't get my head into the hunger games last night.
My mind kept wondering off in other directions.
Not that they aren't good movies I was just distracted.
So I watched a show about the battle of the engines referencing the aircraft engines of days gone by and how they were used on what aircraft.
Something I've known practically all my life but many if not most people don't is the engine in the P51 Mustang.
It was a marriage of an American aircraft with a Rolls-Royce V12 Merlin engine from Great Britain.
One of the best piston engine war planes ever made.
With a top speed of 441 mph.
That's screaming fast.

@worth1 There’s a P51 Mustang that flies out of the local airport at times. My son has an app on his phone the identifies specific aircraft, but the P51 has a distinctive sounding engine the app isn’t necessary.

I got a quick glimpse of a P51 flying over the house a few months ago. I live directly inline with the main runway of the local airport, which hosts an international airshow every few yeas. I see, and HEAR, it all.

I can always tell when an old war bird flys over.
One time I saw B29 FiFi fly by at eye level when I was on a hill at lake Travis.
I was the only person that knew what she was or how important she was as one of only 2 B29 bombers left flying.
It's a B29 I exclaimed.
What's that other people asked?
Seriously you don't know what a B29 is?
No.
You've never heard of the Enola Gay?
No.
What the hell it's the B29 that dropped the atomic bomb on Japan.
Strange name.
It was named after the pilot Colonel Paul Tibbets mother Enola Gay Tibbets.
Damn didn't you guys learn anything in school or on your own.

Here is FiFi.

@worth1 almost 4,000 B-29s were built. Nearly 13,000 B-17s were built. About 10,000 B-25s were made. Something like 300,000 airplanes, 200,000 combat aircraft, were made by the US alone in WW2.

Last night I watched American Built as it was about the building of the Willow Run aircraft plant during WWII. it was absolutely fascinating and amazing how they designed from scratch and constructed an assembly plant a mile long in one year to build B-24 Liberator bombers. The infrastructure, parts manufacturing and supply line were might obstacles but it wasn't long before they were cranking out the stated goal of one B-24 Liberator bomber per hour.

I told Pickles that if that were today it probably couldn't be done. Unlike back then, all the government regs standing in the way wouldn't be swept away, the labor unions would be demanding this and that and the enviros would be hollering about how you can't build that due to habitat destruction. She looked at me and said she had been thinking the same thing.

The dock workers were on strike and the Marines had to load their own ships to go to Guadalcanal from what I've read.

I believe the last B52 was built in 1962.
What a long run for an aircraft still in service.
The previous 2 strategic bombers didn't last any time at all in comparison.
Then the C130 Hercules has been around since I think 1954 and still being built.
68 years in service.

There used to be an old song.
C130 rolling down the strip.
Platoon _fill in blank_gonna take a little trip.
I had the pleasure of flying in all manner of these loud contraptions.
C5 galaxy.
C130.
CH 46 Sea Knight.
CH 53 Sea Stallion.
C130 rocket assisted takeoff.

C5 Galaxy taking off.

C-5 Galaxy. We used to call those Fat Albert. When they take off it seems that they're going so slow they'll never get off the ground but they do and use most of the runway to do it. :)

They're still going over 100 mph but they're so big it doesn't look like it.

Started watching the old movie Meteor with an all star cast
Natalie Wood was in it as a Russian.
Oddly enough Natalie Wood was actually a Russian in real life.
Real name Natalie Zacharenko.

Paths of Glory.
Old movie from 1958 about WWI.
Kirk Douglas and others are in it.
The plot of the movie couldn't be closer to the truth about how the French generals sat back in their fancy dwellings eating fancy food and drinking fancy drinks far away from the trenches and ordered men to the slaughter for their own glory.
It's a real must to see.
