I grew Purple Sprouting Broccoli and some crosses with Kai Lan in pots in the greenhouse a couple years ago. It sure was interesting but they took so long to sprout, and inhabited the 5 and 7 gallon pots which I had to put tomatoes in, eventually. It just was too much space and time to be a good fit with the tomato habit. Kai Lan is so much faster at 60 days, and just easier all round.
It's impossible to grow broccoli family here in the spring, summer, fall without a perfect row cover setup. So many cabbage butterflies, they take all the brassicas to the ground.

I hope you keep us updated on this experiment with fake moths. Can you post a pic of the ones you made? I'd like to try that here! Haven't seen any moths yet but it won't be long and I'd like to have them ready if not already deployed.
