Pink Berkeley Tie Die - way too soft of a tomato. …
It is pretty soft, isn't it! Juicy soft.

Pokemato wrote: Fri Jul 31, 2020 7:03 pm I am new here, just found this forum and joined, and I see that this offer is closed but wanted to say what an amazing thing I thought it was and hope I can participate in something like this in the future as I want to try ALL the tomatoes and so get overwhelmed by all of the amazing varieties out there and a sampling like this from someone with so much knowledge would just be invaluable!!!! Just an awesome thing to do!
Welcome to the forum. I will probably have a new offer in late January.
Yay! I can't wait! My few friends that garden and even love tomatoes think it's crazy I have a 2 page list of possible varieties to try to grow for next year, but there are so many varieties that sound so amazing, how do you choose when you have a relatively small growing space?! I"d LOVE to be blessed with your advice and sharing of seeds!

Marsha,
Am growing your Mocha Splash for the first time and would appreciate your tips on how to tell when it’s ripe. I picked two today because they were getting soft and darker than the rest. Still would like to know the optimum point so I can really enjoy them!
Also wanting to get the best from the Karma Miracle but they are cracking like crazy. I am trying to pick them before the cracking but then they don’t look ripe at all! Had almost no rain and then deluges plus about to get rain from the present Hurricane so guess they are waterlogged and have to crack.

I always pick the KARMAs at first blush because the skin is so thin that they do crack. It's something that K.Pink, K. Miracle do especially. The K.Miracle will be ripe when they are soft and the outside bottom 2/3 has a pupleish color.
Mocha Splash is ripe when they are soft and the stripes have a brick red color along with the rest of the stripes. They are very good at a range of tipenesses.

Thanks! Very helpful on the Miracle. Does the Karma Apricot only get the apricot color on the bottom half. Been seriously wondering if my Apricot is an Apricot since in many ways they look like the Karma Miracle.
Looks like the Mochas are just about ready. Glad I picked those two before all this heavy rain which finally stopped but must wait till the “canals” subside more in the veggie garden!!!! May try one tonight!

Apricot gets full color when ripe, not even green shoulders. I would love to read your thoughts on Mocha Splash, I love it.

Here are a bunch of my Mocha Splash from last year so you can gauge ripeness. They were absolutely delicious. I grow this one every year and it is a really good producer. Thanks again Marsha!

There is some resemblance except the mocha color to the flesh, it's potato leafed, and its a semimultiflora med to smallish beedsteaks. So really its quite different.

Completely understand! Hope you can be more relaxed this year and enjoy your crop for yourself!
In addition the postal service has been
a nightmare so you didn’t need to deal with the extra stress of mail not arriving. The seed companies are certainly facing this hassle.
Thanks for all your past offers. I certainly still have many seeds from you to enjoy great tomatoes.
Would still enjoy seeing what you are growing and your wonderful notes on new varieties if you ever have the time or inclination to post!
Take care!

I'm glad you're ok and just taking a break rather than something wrong.

You've done so much for so many, over the years; wishing you enjoyment of the season and your well-earned break without fretting about seeds, mailings, or expectations ;) And I agree with Gardadore: any pictures and descriptions are always welcome and fun if you are inclined! I love reading the tomato descriptions you post :). Some years I take pictures, but most years I don't. Happy Gardening!
