I live a stones throw from there next to lake Bastrop and Bastrop state park.
Today sucked big time.

Looks like it stopped here at 4.73", so the meteorologist was on target when they showed this area in the "4-5 inches" predicted rain area. It was only about 74-75° outside the entire day, and now 73°. Tomorrow, back up again!

Much needed rain most welcome and still going but easing up. Such a relief not to have to water all the perennial beds and carry gallons to the tomatoes. It was a good soaking but didn’t measure how much. Will be back to high humidity again but appreciated the reprieve.

Heat index 107 and it isn’t even 1pm. Sea breeze non-existent. Dry and no sign of rain in forecast for the next 10 days. Sea breeze might return in a few days and maybe knock down the heat a bit.

Horribly hot today by local standards, and tomorrow too, with the humidex going to 33 C here. Boo hoo for me (a breezy 91.4 F to you southerners). Even now after dark the humidex is 28 C. Probably more in the house, even with all windows open... That is a good bit more than room temperature for moi. My son and DIL are not even bothered, as before they left Montreal the humidex was hitting 44 C (111 F? I'd be dead.. just can't take it.)
The sad part is, this doesn't mean I can move tomatoes out of the (even more horribly hot) greenhouse. Why because Weds and Thurs this week will have a high temperature of 11 C, not much over 50F. Yep two days in a row. Friday it will get up to 60 F, so they promise. And perhaps after that ..."normal" ???? I forget what that is.

Yesterday and today in the 80's (i.e, can work outside), and then back to the 90's (huddle in the house).

Typical July weather here today. Dry, upper 90's, humidity 40% and heat factor in the low 100's. Thank goodness I'm not in Texas today!

Heat index slated to between 105-110 here today. That’s not all that unusual. Topping out around 107 Heat index here last couple of days. 100-105 afternoon heat index might be more typical. If it gets below 100 heat index on a sunny day during the afternoon in July or August, that’s a cool snap. Watered a bit and put in another crappie condo this morning before the midday heat kicks in. I’m well heat adapted and can work for a long time in high heat if there’s some shade nearby. Probably will build another crappie condo this afternoon and trim some bushes. Sweating profusely always makes me feel great! Keeps the skin well moisturized too. Sun exposure builds Vitamin D levels, extra important these days.

Crappie condo, the cute name (not mine) for a pile of vegetation that attracts smaller fish for a place for shelter that then attracts larger species of predatory fish such as Crappie, a.k.a. Calico bass. Many lakes like the one I live on lack sufficient cover for small fish to hide so they naturally gravitate towards any structure that offers some place to escape predators. Leftover Christmas trees also get used for this.

I make them out of bamboo that I have growing in abundance. Bamboo gets cut to fit the depth of water. A bit of quick set cement anchors it all down and drops the pile to the bottom but the bamboo being naturally very buoyant seeks to float. Ends up being sort of a wide vertical column of vegetation that attracts the fish. Eventually, they will rot away, but it might take a few years.

My wife wants to catch some crappie. I’ve got four condos out there now and plan on building a few more. I want a city of crappie condos out there.

Sorry to do this but 70s at night, 80s in the day, enough wind to keep things cool, and some morning and evening rain to keep everything green. This thread needed some positivity in it!

We need the rain here in southern Colorado, but golf ball sized hail is forecast for this afternoon. Hopefully all we get is a quick shower to bring down the 100 degree temps and no frozen rain.

They told us we would get that golf ball size hail yesterday then it got downgraded to penny size which never materialized. WHEW! hope your as lucky. Of course the high for today is supposed to be 78 and the highs will climb back up into the 90s by the weekend. Lows in the mid to high 50s. In other words typical Wyoming weather...

Well I can be positive about the cold rainy weather here until the weekend... My tomatoes will set fruit in the greenhouse! They are lovin it, so much better than excess heat. Lots of flowers now so three days of optimal fruit setting is perrrrfect! :D
And also, wow did we need some rain. Heat really dries out the ground, eh? There are a lot of plants out there that I don't water.. a forest full. They need it bad. Not to mention the farmers who are breathing a sigh of relief. Thank you, foul weather!! :D
