Well, I spent a couple of hours covering everything that I could with whatever I had available and while we got a little rain, the heavy hail happened north of us. Schriever AFB outside of Colorado Springs, about 40 miles north of me, reported tennis ball size hail. So I lucked out this time...

More reason to count our blessings, we don't get hail here ever - not even marble sized. The closest thing we get is graupel... they are tiny and yes they bounce and sting, Like a very cold mosquito. No dent in car, no broken glass.
I suppose one should never say never.

[mention]Bower[/mention], I seen a similar explanation on the news tonight as to why Colorado is more prone to hail storms and the link below explains why. But I am sure there are some states at lower elevations, Texas for one, who get some huge hail...so not sure what the cause is there. About 40 years ago in Ft. Collins, a hailstorm produced over 4" size hail, killing an infant in its mothers arms, trying to run for cover. So it can be deadly...

[mention]pondgardner[/mention] I have a bro and SIL living in Alberta, where they also get deadly smashing hail, huge.
I have seen some small hail in my travels ( in the Andes for one) but nothing like the size that you folks get.
Here in Newfoundland, there's a reason for no hail - very few thunderstorms is part of it. I forget the details but the air movements over land produce thunderstorms on the continent.. we don't have those dynamics out in the North Atlantic. We do rarely get T storms from time to time but they are much weaker than what you see there.

It's so hot that the corn is popping in the fields and my hamburger fresh off the grill tasted cold.

I was so miserable yesterday it was so hot.
Got home ate supper and went to bed early just so I could be under the fan.
Most mornings all this week it has been almost 80F in the morning.
This morning I got up like a darn fool idiot at around 4:30 AM an a Saturday of all things.
Opened the garage door and to my surprise it was cool air coming in not hot.
Only 70 degrees F.
Had a cup of coffee and took off to the store at 7:05 AM to get some things.
Store opens at 7:00 AM.
I was expecting the parking lot to be full but was surprised to see it didn't look like some sort of mad house nightmare from a virus hoarding horror story induced by too much alcohol and prescription pills.
Like it has in the Past.
Bought too much stuff but it wont go to waste.
I see some homemade pancetta in my future.
Smokey the cat wanted out and she will be back begging at the door when the heat sets in.

Cooled off here too. Lower temperatures and dewpoints. Nice out.

Like flipping a switch! After days when the drizzle didn't stop and the high didn't get much above 50 F (more like a normal 'low' at this time of year) we woke this morning to clear skies and sunshine, up to 60 F by noon, and the forecast going forward actually looks like July!
Also during our chilly pitstop we had record setting rain for the day (over 2 inches) so every plant out there should be very contented!

summer so far has been warm with many days in the high 80s. we have had some good rain days to get everything in the garden
in over drive. a storm ripped through here in the early hours of the morning with heavy rain. special effects were a sky lit up with
strobe light lightening, and a continual rumbling of thunder. the intensity reminded me of the fathers day flood in 2018 that messed things
up here in a major way. the storm this morning was over in about an hour. the storm in 2018 kept on going for several hours.
we lost power for a short time, and we had to reboot the computers at work, but everything turned out ok.
currently blustery, sunny, and mid 70s.

My squash apparently likes the heat from the days with highs in the 90 to 93F range but of course we drop to the high 50s at night so my snap peas are still semi producing... AND finally the afternoon thunderstorm pattern has started up which cools things off quickly but also brings a chance of hail. Yesterday it was only pea to nickle size, day before it was tennis ball size in areas around us but not at our house. My friends car got dented, her plants near the steps got a bit beat up but her main containers with her quick makeshift hail protection are fine. Only supposed to get to 88 today and back down to 59 tonight with of course severe thunderstorms in the late afternoon/early evening. In other words normal Wyoming summer weather.

Dry, dry and more dry. Two weeks since we saw rain. There have been pop ups around us and we've heard the thunder but alas, nary a drop. That old weather exclusionary dome must be on top of us again.

Looking good today, Sunday could be another story...

Not two hours after I posted about two weeks without rain last night, you know what happened. A t-storm popped up and finally poured on us for a change. An hour of really hard rain resulted in 2" of MUCH needed rain! Not a puddle to be found a half hour later as it all got sucked up.

Light frost here this morning, mainly on the deck, not so obvious on the grass, too much water lying about. Getting up into mid 50F during the day

Slight overcast today after light showers all day yesterday and should have wet the Boat as the wind is on the light side today, what happens when one stays up late watching the Telly and sleeps in the next day lol..
Oh well day didnt go wasted , transplanted some smaller seedlings into larger pots ..
Maybe Tomorrow try for a castnet for some Yorkies for Tomato Plantout ..
Maybe get lucky and hook onto a nice Fish for the Webber..

Lol , a Castnet is what we use to gather bait with. Yorkies are a baitfish we use live or dead for catching Fish.
The large yorkies i use in my planting hole prior to planting my Tomato seedling , which thus far seems to be making a differrence in plant size and health.

Weather cooled off big time got a rain storm of some sorts coming through and will take advantage and turn the AC down some more to get the house cooler.
I dont care If a have to put a light jacket on.
Glad I went outside to check my pancetta in the garage drying refrigerator or I wouldn't have realized one of my truck windows was down.

Hot and sunny here today after a good downpour yesterday, pretty nice in the 20's and humidex not over 27C. There's a fair bit of rain in the forecast for the week ahead, which makes me nervous for the garlic which is due to harvest first week of august. They will be bigger because of it, but hopefully don't get TOO far ahead of themselves before it turns dry again (if it does, that is). Tomatoes OTOH will be glad of some cloudy weather as they have been very unhappy in the high heat of the greenhouse on our hotter weather. Can't please everyone, as they say.
