Not playing the game but something strange happened today.
I needed to type in my first name Worth and the program wouldn't accept it.

Neither one I was looking up something and the site asked for my first name.
I've even had problems with it at airport security.

I don't play any of the word games because I'm not intelligent enough.

It may not be the best strategy, if you are hoping for a first line hit. I usually use words that don't use any of the vowels in 'adieu', using 'adieu' if the first try doesn't bring back very many hits. And there is always a 'y' lurking around sometimes, like 'tryst'.

Well a first line hit is a 1:12,000 odds as I think I read that the word list used has 12,000 words on it. So that is a shot in the dark with no clues to start with. Not anything to do with vocabulary or skill or anything. So I am never really trying for a first line hit. ANY word on the list would be equally likely from an odds perspective. I did get a second line hit and that was PURE luck. It was fun, but no challange at all and over too soon. I don't even keep track of the words used and I have done about 28 of them. If you are trying for a first line hit, are you keeping a list of words already used? Because that is the only way I can think of to improve your odds slightly.

I hear "teary" is a good first try.

@Sue_CT I probably should but I don't. Seems like I will use a word that I have heard or have seen in print and go from there. Like going through my grow list, running across a pack of basil seeds and thinking, hmmm...

@SpookyShoe A friend mentioned that 'parse' is supposedly a good one as well.

My memoy is so bad or these words for some reason, I can't remember the one I did the day before. Not sure why. Yes, parse would be a good one and very difficult I think because it is certainly not a word that would come to mind for me. But what it is good first word to start with depends on how you approach it. For me, knowing which vowels are in a word probably narrows it down the quickest. What other approaches do you all take?

I have been using 'soare' as my first word for a few days after seeing it mentioned in an article in the best first words to use. Then something to get any of T, N, L, I, C, which are some of the other most common letters. Then when that doesn't help I get frustrated and come back to it later in the day

I heard my son and wife talking about Wordle, then saw this post. Now for a week I've played it every day. 5/6 today. I love it, just one puzzle for a little fun, not something that can suck up too much time!

That stinks, lol. I feel for you. Been there, done that. But what is infuriating is that that did not come down to skill or knowlege, just luck. Too many words with same last 4 letters, you just didnt guess the one they picked. Had one of those, bothered me more because it felt unfair.

A subscription to the New York Times cost $ and so does their gaming subscription so it seems at first since it will be free at least for awhile no subscription will be necessary.

Wardle also released a statement about the sale, assuring players: “When the game moves to the NYT site, it will be free to play for everyone, and I am working with them to make sure your wins and streaks will be preserved.” But the Times statement tells readers that the game — which up until now had been free to play, ad-free, and did not require downloading an app — will only “initially” remain free, making no guarantees about how long that will be.
