I pulled up 4 of my volunteer potato plants last evening and got a nice little crop.

Note that they have some scab which is why I plant my main crop in straw. Scab is not harmful, just unattractive and I usually peel it off.

Did the leaves go brown and that's why you harvested them? Do you know which varieties you have?

Personally, I'm growing 5 types: Ama Rosa, Pinto Gold, Papa Cacho, Peruvian Blue, and Russian Banana. All are fingerling potatoes except for Pinto Gold. Pinto is also my favorite followed by Ama Rosa.

[mention]ponyexpress[/mention] The potatoes are white so they must be progeny of the Kennebec that I grow every year. I grew Red Norland for several years but quit growing them due to how much scab they always got. These red babies must have grown from pieces in the soil.

I am also growing Lehigh Yellow this year. It is a full sized potato.

Yes the leaves were very wilted but not quite brown. These are volunteer plants and were in the way of my developing corn so I pulled them a bit earlier than I would have had to.

I have 4 rows of Kennebec and Lehigh yellow that I planted from seed potatoes and they are still green and growing. The volunteers were up about a month before I planted my seed potatoes.

It's pushing March and my taters are storing well. Pontiacs are just now starting to sprout.

That looks great! Most of mine (fingerling) are still doing well. Russian Banana all have sprouted but this is an early variety. Pinto Gold is starting to sprout (10%). Ama Rosa, Peruvian Blue, and Papa Cacho are still perfect.

My fingerling varieties look great as well. Rose Finn apple is just starting to show some activity, Amarosa and Austrian crescent are still very dormant.
