One of the reasons I choose to get these reels is Mark in the videos that owns Charkbait in California.
They also own an off shore fishing charter I think.
Seen the graphite reel feet bodies explode.
Said the Avet was the only reel out of the rest that didn't feel wanky after catching a huge fish.
We're talking hours of fighting a fish.
Look at the over kill mounting the reel feet to the reel.
It is replaceable even if it were to break.
Not for sure any of my other reels have replaceable feet.

Yeah I bought one of the confounded things.
Been waiting on sales and I needed one for a new rod my friend is giving me.
We really are bad for each other.
Been looking at the Pflueger reels for some time and out of the blue I looked on the site for bait casting reels and saw the sale.
I have a lot of Pflueger reels 7 I think and no fishing trip is gone to without me taking at least one if not more.

The darn weather came in a day early Friday was the day right before yet another front came in.
Today sucks big time drizzle and cold.
So this whole drag setting thing may come as a confusion to some and even me.
I have always set the drag to the rod by accident without ever giving much consideration to line test.
Sort of feel I guess.
It has worked for me all this time so why bother.
When I got the two reels in I also got two free drag setting scales one for each reel.
Well I decided to try it out and see how close I was to the proper 25% to 33% of line test.
Came in like 1/2 pound to my preferred setting just by feel alone, for 20 pound line.
Somewhere around 6 1/2 pounds at strike.
Today I tied the line off and checked the rods.
The SX MC is on an Ugly Stik 8 foot catfish rod.
It bent down to the main backbone of the rod without going all the way to the fore grip by much.
The same with the 9 foot extra heavy Salmon Steelhead rod for the MXJ MC.
That one I was a little worried about and the test made me feel better about the drag setting.
The rod says anywhere from 14 to 50 pound line.
I find the idea of running 50 pound line on this rod to be a little absurd to say the least it you are going to set the drag at 25% to 33% of the line test.

Next I bought some tulle cloth to make stink bait and liver pouches to premake up some hooks that all we have to do is tie on the hook.
Tulle cloth is the stuff you use to make wedding veils and the same stuff you use to keep flowers from cross pollinating.

This way the stuff will stay in the hooks and not sling off.
Then I got the idea of using Alaska fish fertilizer as bait and Plant tone as bait.
Both stink to high heaven and I think the fish will like it too.
Maybe I will get some foam rubber or old sock cloth and suck up some fish fertilizer in it.

Could have went yesterday but got up to late.
Tossed and turned all night long.

Anyone remember Floppy, the seven foot six inch medium light striper rod.
I bought it for another reel and it was too floppy.
Just got in the Plfueger Supreme reel on sale and it is now on Floppy.
Pretty happy with the setup with145 yards of 12 pound mono and the drag set at three pounds.

My husband now has rod/reel envy LOL!

Got the one in last night and liked it so much I ordered two more with a 10% discount on top of the sale.
This is almost get one for free at regular prices.
Nothing but good things to say about their mid grade to upper end reels.
I think I have 8 of the open face president spinning reels and no fishing trip goes without a couple of them.
Gotta lot of rods and reels but some people have more of other things to.
Mine is rods and reels, pressure canners and cookers kettles kitchen stuff and cast iron.

Love Pflueger reels but almost exclusively use all spinning reels. Especially the President & Supreme series. Still have several older Garcia bait-casters and a few catfish outfits. Even though I'm right-handed I'm going to look at a left-handed bait-caster reel next time I'm at the store. I'm a pan fisherman & the occasional cat-fishing trip for the most part.

I got out on the water last Monday & enjoyed the weather at least. Crappie fishing laydowns/stumps in some of the local Ohio river tribs. Water temp 47 all day and didn't find many crappie. Wind got bad mid-afternoon and Ohio creeks were muddy (see the difference in water color) while the Kentucky side was almost too clear. 1st fish was the big drum follwed by 5 small bass, 3 bluegill & one lone crappie. Felt good just to get out. Boat ran like a champ after setting for a month. Looking forward to Spring fishing.

Folks I go to bed way early because I get up at 3:30 AM every day.
So I get this text at 7:00 pm woke me up out of a sound sleep asking.
"What direction were we facing when that wind kicked our ass?"
Referring to the fishing excursion we went on the other Sunday.
I had forgotten to put the phone on airplane mode.
The wind was blowing at around 25 to 30 MPH and is was cold.
Dead out of the south east.
You couldn't cast a line to save your life.
Both of us caught a fish and were more than happy to go home later in the day.
We kept the diesel truck running so we could take turns warming up while the other watched the ten poles we had out.
My record for catching fish is 37 catfish in one day.
I think it was 78 in total for all three of us.

I was so upset after the store trip I decided to try the Pflueger supreme out on another empty rod I have.
Just to relax and calm down.
It is an Ugly Stik Elite 10 foot 6 inch medium heavy salmon steelhead rod.
Line rating 10 to 20 pounds.

Put a 1oz sinker on it and gave it a medium strength overhead cast down the street.
Just a wee toss you might say.
WOW I know the distance on my street and it was over 200 feet almost 100 yards.
Probably had about 50 yards of line left on it and the little reel was screaming big time, reeeeeeeeeeeee.
Since I started backwards and learned to cast the so called un-castable conventional salt water reels these things are way easy to cast.
Tested out the rod bend with the drag set pretty tight way more than it was on Floppy.
Fantastic backbone and much more strength.

Like an idiot in the face of the impending virus doom I ordered two of the Ugly Stik salmon steelhead rods.
One an 8 foot 6 inch medium heavy the other an 8 foot 6 inch heavy.
One good for 10 to 20 pound line the other good for 12 to 25 pound line.
Due to arrive one tomorrow and the other the next day.
Couldn't make my mind up on which one to get so I got one of each.
One and or both will do nicely with the Pflueger reels I got in yesterday.
The 12 to 25 pound line rod will get the Avet SXMC reel on it and the rod that it is on now will get one of the Pflueger reels on it.'
That one is an Ugly Stik GX2 7 foot medium heavy rod.
Maybe.

I'm about as bad Worth. Can't go to Walmart without at least buying one item from the fishing isle. LOL

Today I asked my supervisor if he liked to fish.
He said yes.
I told him I caught a big black bass and put my hands out to show him.
BS he exclaimed.
Oh Yeah I'll show ya.
Showed him the picture and he said, holy crap it's a fat one too.

Both rods came in.
The medium heavy is going to be a real thrill if I catch a fish of any size on it.
Put 175 yards of 10 pound red Cajun line on it.
The heavy will get the other reel and have a little more heavy line probably 12 pound.

Here in the Ohio valley we have had several rounds of rain in the last week & all river tribs are blown out muddy. Way too muddy to even think about crappie fishing even though I have plenty of minnows in a tank in our garage. Stocked up 2 weeks ago & it's been raining ever since it seems. So yesterday instead I went to a local park where the state releases trout each winter. Only thing I caught was a crawdad. LOL
Felt good to get out though.

Spent the day on the water.
