1.5” of rain here overnight. Looks like the rain is about done for now. No sign of any major wind, no debris on the ground. Garden and yard needed a good soaking. 67° now, which feels awfully chilly as compared to the recent weather.

Ate raw oysters today for the last time until probably November. The water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting too hot.

On another weather related note the generator that we had installed last fall finally got its first use last night when it kicked in after the house lost power due to a severe thunderstorm. It ran for two and a half hours until power was restored.

There was another 2" in the gauge this morning. Today will have off and on drizzle and maybe some storms late afternoon and/or evening. Rinse and repeat for the rest of the week. Loving these upper 60's/low 70's highs!

Today is another indoors type of day. Not supposed to get out of the 50s, and raining all day. Rained .19" the first half of the day, and not supposed to stop until well into the night. Only a brief time in the afternoon forecast with heavy rain, but that could change.

Another 7/10 inch of rain fell this morning. Keeping it cool out. The ground is soaking all the rain up.

Mid 70's, light breezes, sort of cloudy and a lovely day to do garden work, so of course, it was a doctor/lab day. Since I had to be across town anyways, stopped to get just a quart of cream for my coffee habit at Aldi's and ended up with a grocery sack 's worth of stuff with out getting a cart since it was only 1 item ! Good news, though, made it out for just shy of thirty bucks.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the same weather wise, so it is going to be a garden day if'n I got to whip the governor to get it ! Need to get dirty and happy.

Was a weird spring. Was very rainy and cloudy May. With nights temps at high 40s to 50s F, hot peppers, cucumbers, beets are not growing at all and behind compared to last year. Tomato and potato seem to tolerate the cool weather fine though, and leafy greens are enjoying it. I started spinach late but they're doing really well, some years they already bolted by now.

But weather is getting warmer into the 80s starting next week.

First high of 70F/21C forecast for tomorrow, and all 60's in the week to come.
Blackflies arrived today. Blackfly spring, is what we get now for a couple weeks. Hope it's windy.

Crazy lightning storms rolling through the area.
I had to drive straight into one this morning.

My recently graduated from The University of Texas son is still on campus now learning to teach English to non-English speakers. He was teaching a class when the alarms for severe weather went off. Looks like some wind damage from a storm that rolled through a little over an hour ago.

It missed me.
But it cooled off.

@Cornelius_Gotchberg @MissS how’s the smoke up there? Looks like a thick plume of smoke from the wild fires in Canada now blowing over Wisconsin and other northern states.

No smoke in the air here today, the rain is taking care of that. Our smoke comes from agricultural fires in Mexico, mainly the Yucatan.

It was beautiful early this morning. I can't detect any smoke right now because the clouds have rolled in and the wind has picked up. Rain will be here shortly.

I guess that I have been so busy that I didn't realize that Canada had fires again. That's not good. So many people have respiratory problems that they really do suffer in the smoke and it goes from Canada, the Dakota's, Minnesota to Wisconsin. That's a lot of people hurting.

We will have to have bower do something about all these fires going on up there.

Map of particulates and the fires. As of 2pm.it looks like Ely, MN is the worst in the lower 48. One place I actually have been to is Ely, MN.

Saskatoon is the worst for particulates in the air in North America.

Had about 1/2 inch of rain last night, again happy for the rain coming in as normally, it's droughty here. Low 80's today, barely any breeze, nice enough to have the house open and aired out a bit. With the increased rains we've had, the yards and weeds are growing up faster than normal and the city code people had it on the news that violations are up and tickets WILL be issued ! Yards need mowing every 7 to 10 days it seems.

Kinda the same as what the divine @MissS claims; beautiful this a.m., but then we got some haze, which gave way to wind, overcast & cloudy.

We could use some rain, 'specially after I fed a bunch of Pyramidal & Green Giant Arbs, Maureen Yews, Azalea Karens, and Cunningham White & English Roseum Rhoadies.

Gave 'em all a good soak in the likely event that we get stood up.....AGAIN!

Maybe send bower a case pr three off the famous jet puffed marshmallows and hot dawgs?

Seriously, Bad air can be terrible even with out respiratory problems. Such a waste in wildfires too.

Looks like it's hovering over Saxon Harbor on Lake Superior. https://www.ipcamlive.com/saxonharbor?f ... fV11hsi6L0

The second bench to the left the flag pole across the boat channel is the one I dedicated to the lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch on our 10th Wedding Anniversary (06/21/12) with the inscription:

Ten Years Ago You Said "I Do"
To Be My Wife, And Best Friend,Too.

Yesterday and today were the first 100F+ days of the season, so I spent a couple days earlier in the week making sure everything was watered and mulched. Low 60s at night, so by opening the windows for a couple hours late at night or early in the morning, no need to use air conditioning yet. It’s comfortable in the house, and especially going in and out in the heat of summer, when the a/c is set at 80F.

All the tomatoes are in the ground, except for a few replacements. I held off on planting peppers and eggplants in anticipation of the heat wave. That’ll be about 60-70 more plants, and then a bed each of melons and cucumbers I started from seed, and a couple beds each of presprouted pole beans and direct-seeded bush beans. The forecast for the next ten days shows highs of 82-90, so I should be able to get a lot done.
