Sun sort of came out later in the day.
Nothing to get excited about.
All windows open and fresh air time.

The weather was just basically awful today, can’t slice it any other way. Wave after wave of oppressive downpours paired with frightening winds, dark, sunless, claustrophobic, the kind of weather I dislike the most by a long shot.

It was a heavily frosted morning yesterday and 26F. It looked like it had snowed out there. In the wee hours this morning that rain that pelted those at the LSU-Ole MIss game last night came through here, dropping about a half inch on us and moderating the low to 40F. The garden needed the rain. There are still bits of rain here and there and more is expected tonight.

Fortunately we're supposed to have clear skies tomorrow night for viewing the Great Conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn, the "Christmas Star".
These two haven't been this close and bright in 800 years. If you have clear skies tonight you'll be able to see it now in the northwestern sky but it will be brightest tomorrow night.

My northwestern sky seems to be blocked by a giant mother ship from outer space.

Cold wet and rainy.
Got a big kettle of my favorite food on the stove.
Beef vegetable soup or stew, whatever you call it.
Made it a few days ago and heating it up.
Beef brisket flat with fat.
Potatoes.
English peas.
Corn.
Sweet peppers.
Green beans
Carrots.
Sweet paprika.
San Antonio chili powder.
Garlic powder.
Black pepper.
Salt.
Onions.
Oregano.
Cumin.
A person might call it a version of goulash.
But by whatever name you call it this stuff hits the spot with this type of weather.
I looked at the weather forecast and prepared for it in advance.
And no it doesn't taste nor look like chili.

I can't keep sour cream in the house.
Always eating it and forgetting it at the store.
That along with horseradish and cottage cheese
Weather is really nasty outside and put all activities to a halt including the grill.

Would you believe it, popped out to local shop to get some asparagus and mushrooms for steak tonight. The one firework that i saw go off ahead, went pop in a big show and then a few minutes later hit me on the arm as i was walking. I have heard of some people who get struck by lightening twice so i am staying in tonight - besides it also cold....

oh, cottage cheese, full fat variety - love it same

Well, what was really funny was my wife remarked, when i came in, "Did you hear that firework? ". I said , "Hear it, I blooming well felt it". I was minded to pop back down the road and get myself a lottery ticket tonight in case it was a sign, and then i thought, with my luck, I'd probably be struck by the "Big bertha firework" with my name written on the side of it, so I'm definitely staying in....

Atrocious. More gloom, wet, ugly, thundering and drenching downpours, go ahead and slit my wrist and be done with it kind of weather. The weekly updated drought monitoring site has the area at abnormally dry and that’s just laughable since the yard has been a soggy mess for weeks now. 18 inches of rain this December and we aren’t quite done, abnormally dry, give me a break, where do these people come up with their idiotic numbers?

mmm, well the weather is a tricky thing to predict.....

A few hours before the Great Storm of 1987 broke, on 15 October 1987, he (sic Michael Fish - weatherman for BBC) said during a forecast: "Earlier on today, apparently, a woman rang the BBC and said she heard there was a hurricane on the way. Well, if you're watching, don't worry, there isn't!". The storm was the worst to hit South East England for three centuries, causing record damage and killing 19 people.

Well we are ringing in the New Year with rain, and that's pretty unusual for here - dare i say never? It's always nasty with snow, pretty much, perhaps various values of nasty in one year or the next. Anyway, freezing all day today and very nice and dry, i was out moving and stacking a few logs myself and quite enjoyed it. But apparently it's warmed up already, because something is already hitting the window and... I checked, it's already rain. Not fireworks, thank goodness! Not even sleet.
Won't get to 50 F but around 5 C so low 40's F, well above freezing around midnight, and then it'll plummet before morning thus freezing up all the 10 mm of rain we're now getting with Southerly winds expected to gust to 80 kph.
I'm just fine with it pouring rain on New Years Eve. I'm not thrilled by fireworks, in any case, but I really don't like them shot off around the woods here, for fear of starting a fire... once again, mother nature to the rescue!

No surprise that we're having rain here, too, with 7 -10 C as low and high the next few days.
Lost of housework should get done.
Soil in pots has been turned and is being rinsed by the rain.

Now the sun is out and as cold as can be.
In the lower 30's.
Left big kettle of stew goulash soup stuff out in the garage because it's cold.

48, 9C here. Sunny day ahead after a brief storm blew through last evening with 2cm of rain. Week and a half of seasonably cool to slightly below normal temperatures ahead, punctuated by another 3cm rain storm expected Sunday.

Put down a little side dressing 3-2-3 poultry derived org. fertilizer yesterday, good timing with the rain.

We had about 15 cm of snow on Sunday which was enough to shovel and stayed on the ground for a few days.. Gone completely now, with rising temperature and rain overnight totalling 12 mm, probably had 20mm counting this morning. It's very gusty here over 60 kph from SE, with streamers of fog blowing around the yard. It reminds me of the view from an airplane window in the turbulence. Current temp is 6C about 43 F although the forecast high is 9C, pretty close to your temperatures karstopography. :) Not the norm for January here at all. There's some kind of blocking pattern that is giving us warm air and rain until the weekend. Then back to freezing.
