Anyone read all the Sherlock Holmes stories?
I have about a thousand times.

i have the complete book of sherlock holmes stories. it came with the first house we bought when we moved north. the previous owner had left
some boxed up books behind. there were some good books in that box, dracula, frankenstein, the picture of dorian gray to name a few.

Had to re-read Walden for a class about a month ago, and that whacko was spot-on often. Enjoyed it loads more as an adult than as required reading in my second decade of life. Well worth a re-read.

Parallel Lives seems to always rear its head.

I just ordered two of Caro's LBJ books, wanted to try them out before buying the whole thing. Anyone have opinions on the series?

Walden, there is one that I have not heard of since I was in Jr. High or High School. Thanks for the advise. I think that I will go and have a re-visit with this one.

Walden... Did you know that while Thoreau was living on Walden pond, his mama did his laundry for him? True.

After Stephen King put out The Stand I couldn't put it down.
Then he put it out again with more stuff in it.
I have that one too and never read it.
I think now is a good time to read it.

Started with Means of Ascent in the LBJ biography series by Robert Caro.

Learning a lot, Caro's writing style is easily digestible.

Just ordered two from Amazon, used of course.

The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World, about how the two lobes of the brain function

and

Citizen Cohn biography of a scumbag. Apparently there's a James Woods movie too.

Just before they closed everything here, I went to the library and checked out the Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman. I've read them before but love them. Now the library is closed because of the virus, and the books are mine for a long long time. Yay!

Our libraries are closed as well through at least the end of the month. But there is a huge amount of online books, audio and visual, available through a few online resources accessed through our local library system. And [mention]Rajun Gardener[/mention] mentioned in another thread, Amazon has quite a few books available using Kindle readers. So there are alternatives to obtaining physical books.

i just finished george washington carver by racham holt.
what an amazing guy he was. this book should be required reading for every school aged kid.
i remember reading about george in school, but the school book didn't do justice to what
george carver accomplished in his life, his mind, talents, discoveries, kindness, and the sense of responsibility
to make life better for the people of his race.

also just finished patriot battles by michael stephenson.

currently reading the real wolf by ted lyon. this is not a warm fuzzy book about wolves.
also started reading silent victory. the u.s. submarine war against japan by clay blair jr.

Currently reading: "My Family and Other Animals" by Gerald Durrell.

Started the Runelords series and just finished the first book last night, and picked up the rest of the Earthking series at a second hand book store for cheap.

A good while ago I read all of WOT but the last one. I can't find it in paperback and am too cheap to buy the hardback!

I'm toying with the idea of diving back into the Dragonlance books in the closet and visiting with the wizards, elves and dwarves of Krynn for a while just to shut out all this current mess.

I was big into WoT, but Jordan kinda lost it there in his later books. Book 11 - his last, I think - is a straight re-hash of all that has gone before and not worth the cost of a paperback. I gave up at that point and didn't finish the series, but people tell me that the guy who finished it did a credible job.

BTW, hardback in VG condition was fetching $15+ on eBay, so I made more than i spent, IIRC.

See if your liberry is online. Dallas Publics are closed, but their e- and audio-book catalog is formidable!

Just started reading The Idiot by Dostoevsky. I read Crime and Punishment last year and enjoyed it, so when I saw The Idiot in the temporarily free Kindle books list I had to download it. Hope it's as good as Crime and Punishment.

New York Public library has a ton of e-books to download.
