I got some tomato growing advice from my new uncle (just married my aunt), who doesn't grow tomatoes, but his grandma did. Apparently, what you do is, when the tomatoes start to blossom, you bury sugar cubes all around the plant, and water it in real good, every day. The tomatoes will be sweet. So, yeah, thank goodness I know this now. I can finally grow sweet tomatoes. 🙄

My big tomatoes have started really taking off. I remember the first time planting Old German, I had pretty much given up on it and then at the end of the season, so many tomatoes! Orange Jazz did that to me last year. This year, I planted Pineapple to see how it stacked up against Old German, and it's pretty much identical. Turns out, it's also a rather late but productive tomato.

Surprising (to me, they're both new) winners for taste this year are Dwarf Mr. Snow and 1884.

Your uncle will be so very proud to see all of those very sweet tomatoes. I am so glad that you have had such a bountiful harvest.

Mr. Snow surprised me too. I thought it would be bland, but found it to be superb. This will be my 3rd year in a row growing it.

A few of the ones I sliced thickest aren't dry yet, but most are. I have small tomatoes halved in the other dehydrator, they take a little longer.
