yesterday, i saw some of the biggest snowflakes i have ever seen.
one person said they looked liked cotton balls floating down.
my wife said they were like sheets of toilet paper. anyway, they were big.
toward the end of the day, the snow turned to rain. not one minute of sunshine.
temperature is supposed to rise into the 40s and 50s by the end of the week.
i will be happy to be done with snow. just don't know when that will be.

Big Forecast shift for the weekend, now including significant rain Saturday and Sunday. Looked at the forecast this morning, dry weekend. Tonight, completely different story.

Humid evening out there. Day wasn’t hot, but sort of tropical without being hot. 79 degrees was the high. Plenty of light, but with little direct sunlight, like a thin shroud of clouds. April is like this here.

Got to 78° today - 10° above average, and not a cloud in the sky, and just a slight wind. I tried to do as much as I could, since it is supposed to get to 87° tomorrow, with even more humidity! Not what I want this early in the season!

Perfect! Yesterday was 82 and sunny but didn't feel that warm thanks to a nice northerly breeze. Same again today. Oh boy!

Right now it's 88° - 20° above average for this date. It looked like I was going to be able to able to plant the tomatoes early, but now I see some windy conditions here the next few days. Later today it got over 20 mph, but I brought them and the peppers in before it got too hot. It's supposed to be getting back to normal, with a low in the low 40s Friday night, but after that is when the wind kicks in.

73F 23C, lightly raining, 4/10 “ of rain so far from overnight. More on the way. Good timing as I was going to have to add water if the rain didn’t materialize. No water on the garden since the ~ inch of rain last Friday night. Supposed to get another inch and a half over the next three days. Pretty dry here so it will be just fine.

69F 21C still raining, not very hard. 1.6” since Thursday night. WU has another 3 plus inches in the forecast for the rest of today, but I’m doubtful we get that much more. Garden drains well, I’m not too worried. No burning sun.

We had rain again last night, just enough to bring the April total to 291 mm (around 11.5 inches). About three times normal. Some yellow tips on my back bed garlic is likely the result of less than perfect drainage under the circumstances. I know that rain makes our soil more acidic, but the bed was limed in prep last fall so shouldn't be too bad. But I also think that any free N in the granular ferts used at planting time may well have washed away. Thinking to give that row some fish emulsion. Maybe all of them? Is extra fert a good idea when you have extra precipitation?

Bower good question. https://sciencing.com/rainwater-contain ... -8461.html

Rainwater contains available nitrogen, but I guess the amount varies. Lightning might account for the variance since that’s how nitrogen becomes available to plants in rainwater. We get a lot of lightning here, thundering as I write this, so maybe the Nitrogen in rain here might be more than you get in a cool temperate, low thunderstorm activity zone.

When it rains here, it typically boosts plant growth beyond what irrigation water would.

We got a ton of nitrogen added to our soil this week.
The thunderstorms were simply amazing.

3.5” rain here from Thursday night to Sunday Morning, most of it yesterday. Sweeny area just a few miles to the west got 12-14”. Flooded homes and roads. Sun is out and birds are singing.

Some winds to test us for 24 hours - hang onto the plastic greenhouses :-)

Still looking passable for the weekend to plant out some of the larger plants, not ideal but space is now a premium as everything is getting big.

Wind has been the story since it stopped raining. Some beautiful sunshine over the weekend but the wind was howling and very cold. Spot of calm this morning then blowing again. As one person said, it was windy enough to blow the milk out of your tea. Alternating sunny and glowering today with some showers and even graupel. So called "snow pellets" we always called them hail but I guess not. They bounce. None of it lasted, happy to say.

It's been a cool spring and season is off to a slow start, weather still around 40-60*F for another week. The potatoes seem to enjoy this temperature though and growing fast.

A couple of picture perfect May days here, yesterday and today, around 82 for high, low 60s at night. Trend advancing towards more tropical conditions, nothing abnormal, this is expected and typical here come May. The tropics assert themselves and ultimately win out for a few months, nothing to fear. I like sweating, keeps the skin youthful.

I was thinking it felt warm, today. I thought it was in the 70's, but then I asked Alexa, and she said the high was 92 (low of 54)! I guess it's that time of year (hopefully it stays cool enough this week that the tomato seeds I planted a few days ago still sprout). I checked tomorrow (high of 67 and low of 41), and the rest of the next ten days is no higher than in the 80's. That's a good sign (but I'll have to bring the plants in the house on several nights; I do that when it's supposed to be 41 or lower).

This just about sums it up. Perhaps a touch higher daytime temps but the sun is pretty strong out there now which helps make up a few degrees.

It was 44 here yesterday morning. I imagine the newly sown bean seed doesn't like that one bit. Oh well. Not remembering such low temps in May I checked my weather data. It looks like my memory is totally off and why I keep the data. Just last year we had six straight days from May 7 thru the 12th with lows between 40-47. At least I'm thankful it's not in the 30's as some of you are still having to put up with!
