I've been finding that with most of what I'm growing, even my first Sungolds didn't taste so good...of course it could be me being over-anxious and picking stuff too early, like I did with the Blush.

Setec, In case you dont know this, Sungold is one variety that really does best being left to ripen on the vine. I disliked Sungold at first, and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about until I tried one that fell off the vine and into my hand.

I would recommend Maglia Rosa as a variety that tastes good at first blush. (I think it tastes best at full ripeness, and Fred Hempell disagrees about that), but for those of us who simply cannot wait, especially early in the season, Maglia Rosa is the one to grow!

Thank you, I'm growing 3 of them this year.

Picked our 1st two Lemon Boy's today. As far as yellow tomatoes I like them about as well as any. And they are typically bullet proof every year.

Lemon Boy F1 is one of the few true yellow tomatoes I've found. (No orange there.)

They were delicious. For a yellow tomato they seem to have a slight acidic bite. I've tried other yellows but these will always have a spot in our plot.

I enjoyed three purr-fectly ripe Sungolds out in the garden today, and didn't share with my hubby or my Sungold-loving dawg. Yum, yum, yum .

I had my first tomato of the year, a wonderful golden Sun Sugar. It went straight from the vine into my mouth. Let the taste of summer begin!

This year I have been surprised by the taste of margaret curtain and tundra, for now, some incredible tasting tomatoes and they will come back with me.

I haven't read through this entire thread yet, but the most surprising, impressive tomato I've had this year has been Jaune Flamme. I love the flavor, it's been productive and the plant still looks good into the July heatwave we're suffering through in Mississippi now.

First time growing, definitely a keeper.

Also, the French F1 hybrid Dona has been a joy. Early, tasty, productive and still going.

JohnJones, I grew Dona F1 last season and it was AMAZING. Loaded with fruit, and very tasty!

Today, I'm impressed by Nineveh, because it's getting ripe already.

Also, this Medovaya Kaplya cross F2 (possibly with McGee or an RL Kimberley offtype) was pretty tasty! It reminds me of a mix between Medovaya Kaplya and Esterina F1 with some tomatoey flavor more typical of some red tomatoes thrown in. Nevertheless, it's a gentle tomato flavor, sweet, and very good! The color and leaf-type should be stable, since they're recessive. Not sure about the shape, but the F1 was ovate, and Medovaya Kaplya was a pear.

I think Medovaya Kaplya is the sweeter of the two, but they're both sweet.
Come to think of it, as far as I can tell, Medovaya Kaplya is a true yellow, too (in the same way as Lemon Boy F1).

Juliet has just set fruit in 100 plus degree F heat.
No joke I have kept an eye on the blooms and I can say for certain that she will set fruit in this type of weather.
Maybe not the best tasting or the fanciest but by hoot it is a home grown tomato.

I think it's pretty good tasting and fancy, but that's me, LOL. I haven't grown a lot of its sort, though. I think of what I've grown in the past, Maglia Rosa and Green Tiger resemble it most in flavor (but they're pretty different, much softer, and fairly smaller). I'm growing Sprite, this year, which is supposed to be kind of like it.

I just had my first ever KBX with lunch today. The description said "low acid" but these weren't. I wouldn't know what it should taste like since I've never had one before. But it was a nice size at 14 oz. In the photo it looks a more orange than it really was.

Speaking of seeds from Marsha, here is my first ever Big Cheef. Very nice tasting and growing plant. This year it was the earliest and probably one of the best growing dark tomatoes and I'm growing a whole bunch of them.
