Funny - I walked into a Subway a few months ago, you know, back when we were not all in isolation. There were two kids behind the counter. I asked to have cukes on my sandwich. They looked at me with a blank stare and said what do you want.? I said cukes. Both said they didn't know what that was. I said cucumbers. Both said they have never heard them called cukes. Really, I've got to think I am certainly not the only one that calls them that?

Familiar to me...maybe it's a gardener thing.

That was my first thought - maybe only gardeners would know it! I wonder if they would have known what a zuke is?
What are some of the other abbreviations for veggies?

Probably only those who recognize cuke, would understand zuke!
Maters and taters come to mind.

I have always heard them called cukes but you know that many young people do not even eat veggies so it's not a surprise that they didn't know that word.
I'll bet that they know the abbreviated word fries!
Oh and I have seen cukes advertised as cues but I have never used that word.

We've always called them cukes. I wonder if they know what spuds are.

Spuds = the dog in the bud light commercial.
