Re: How's your weather?
Had one of those days today when it would rain, on and off, but only enough to be annoying, so I couldn't do much on that cool day. Tomorrow it is supposed to stop in the morning, and warmer, up to average 67°, while today was below 60° again. I blamed the rain on a friend that stopped by, that said he got his truck washed, and as he drove away, the rain started!

Re: How's your weather?
We're back to sunshine here after two days of high winds and sleet. A sunny week in the forecast overall.
About 2/3 of our forecast nights are frosty, which is pretty normal by averages. It's not stopping spring!

Re: How's your weather?
Today was a near perfect day, sunny and 69° - the only thing I would have changed would have been that strong wind, which got even stronger when I when out later. Tomorrow is going to be much cooler, but much less wind, supposedly.
It did rain again, before I got up - .18", so I would have lost that, too, for the perfect day, since my soil didn't need any more moisture!

Radar is lit up with yellow, red and even some purple, but it’s been all 100 miles north of us. Looks like a piece of it might ease this way in the wee hours before dawn. Tomorrow is supposed to be cool for late in April with a high of 68°and a low of 52° Monday morning.

Re: How's your weather?
Got too excited again, weather is all over the place in Ohio during April. A few more nights in the coming week in the mid-30s. Had to bring tomato and squash seedlings back inside. Half of pepper plants already in the ground, finger crossed, but I think they're established enough to deal with it. One would think with my experience I would be patience enough to wait until May and not take chances, but I guess I find it exciting.

Re: How's your weather?
It has been in the upper 80's (and yesterday 90!) and that seems to be over starting today. Yesterday the AC got turned on for the first time this year. There's a light drizzle out there this morning as a cold front comes through. The forecaster says today, "will likely be an unseasonably chilly day with rain and drizzle off and on for much of the day. Temperatures will start off in the 60s in the morning, falling into the 50s for the afternoon." No AC today!
On the ten day forecast I see a possible 39 low Tuesday morning! The old Appalachian "Blackberry Winter"?

From AC on Saturday to turning the heat on late yesterday! The 39 low forecast for tomorrow morning has been upped to 41. Then we start gradually warming up all week until we hit a high of 91, low 63 ten days from now. I think we've seen the last "cold" snap.

47° here this morning, for about an hour anyway. That should be the last of the forties until fall.
On the way to 71°. Low 80s by the end of the week. Plenty of sun. We only got 2/10ths an inch of rain from the last system Saturday night through Sunday morning. Going to have to water later this week.

43 was my low. Wasn't too happy. Didn't want to get out of bed, 40's are my freezing point.

Re: How's your weather?
I don't know if we got frost in this area, but the temperature on my thermometer in the back got down to 39° last night, and many places nearby got colder. The forecast lows will be lower for 3 days this week.
It drives me nuts every year when I hear all that crap about that "average" last frost date, getting people to buy and plant things like tomatoes, and other things that can be killed by frost. Do all those people not know what average means? That basically means that half the time you'll get the last frost before, and half the time after that date!!! But then, I guess many people like to gamble...

Re: How's your weather?
Yeah so the forecast was 35*F, probably actual temp was lower. I brought inside 50% of my tomato and pepper seedlings, but the others were already planted, they are all frost damaged. Not too many tomato seedling outside fortunately, they are probably all RIP, the peppers though looks like will recover.maxjohnson wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 2:36 am Got too excited again, weather is all over the place in Ohio during April. Another 32*F for Thursday morning which will finish them for good. I'll have to find cover them with buckets.

I'm not thinking clearly at all...I have 3 rows out I certainly should have put ag19 overtop this evening. Calling it a freeze warning now.

51° over night, didn’t quite make it into the 40s. 77° for the high. Smooth sailing.

Re: How's your weather?
I didn't even think about the peppers and tomatoes I had in the plastic cloche house last night. Of course they froze off. The jalapenos lost almost every main stem. Early tomatoes are wrecked, second time now. First from wind, now from cold. Yet another reason I think it is better to wait until April to start tomatoes. I can't keep track of all this stuff myself.
The pepper tray toward the middle right next to the 5gal of water fared better, but still lost a bit. They (all 4 trays) were going to be the best pepper starts I had raised, so far.
I guess I need some kind of wifi thermometer that will start pestering me when the temperature drops below 38 or 36 or something. That damage looks way colder than the 36F it was supposed to reach by 5AM. Thankfully, all the weed seeds that sprouted from the compost look intact and healthy!
I've had peppers out other years under just AG19 hoops and had some leaves freeze, but never the stems like this. I really don't know the value of a plastic greenhouse in PA, just too many freeze/thaws.
I didn't get over to look at the broccoli and cabbage that I was actually worried about last night.

Re: How's your weather?
Yesterday, the forecast for tonight was 35f, one degree colder than last night. So I just covered my cole crops and brought in the peppers and tomatoes. Now, the forecast now says a low of only 49F for tonight. A 14 degree increase in prediction since midnight last night. Then 1/8" of rain around 2pm.
36F thursday 5am.
And 35f friday 5am.
37f for Saturday 5am.

Re: How's your weather?
Only got down to 39° here, but there is a 37° forecast for Thursday night, after a 50° night. It was nice today - 69°, and 70° forecast for tomorrow, but only 59° Thursday! It finally goes up for at least a week, after that. Hopefully, the rain will eventually hold off a few days - seems we are always getting at least enough to stop what we're doing. Some in the morning...

We need rain here, we'll take as much as south jersey can spare.
