Cold springs have always been the norm for us, due to the Labrador Current that brings cold water and ice our way. When the wind blows sea ice onshore and keeps it from dispersing, that is our early spring chiller. Then when the icebergs come floating down, that keeps us cold for as long as they last. Well into June and sometimes July. In the past decade most years have seen more than usual icebergs, even all summer long. You don't need to be near the ocean to feel the ice on the breezes! But this year the sea ice extent was the lowest seen in 50 years. I'm told this has also caused the bergs to melt and disperse further north, so we are not seeing any this time around! The breeze is still chilly, so the ocean temperature must still be cold I guess.
So far we are running about 4- 5 degrees C above normals for the end of may-beginning of June, and the forecast has only a day or two at normals with the rest running high.

Weather at 7,000 feet asl in Northern New Mexico at the end of May into June is almost dreamlike in its perfection. Tomorrow, I return to the reality of weather at 20 feet asl 13 miles from the GOM. Only my dry skin will be thankful, the rest of me will be wondering what the heck have you done.

Raining here too... thank goodness!
Yesterday we hit 10 degrees C above normal - that is, close to 24 C. Which for us is peak of summer, July weather. We're supposed to hit the high again on Tuesday with humidex into the 30's. I'm embarrassed to convert that 24C to F, it is only 75 F, but for me it's a great day for sitting idle, and a terrible day to be doing hard work in the garden under swarms of blackflies.
It was great this morning, the flies didn't even bother to come out at the steady 15 C/ 60 F. Or maybe they got cooked and done yesterday. I wish!

Another 2.5” of rain here in SE Texas (possibly more not accounting for evaporation in rain gauge) from Friday of last week until lunchtime today, 1/2” just this morning. Still threatening more out there. Garden went wild over the week in my absence. Squirrels finally getting their share of tomatoes, looks like mainly from plants that got blown down and over the net barrier. One of those plants was a Hillbilly with the big tomatoes. One squirrel eaten tomato remains weighed 22 ounces. Wonder what it would have weighed? That squirrel ravaged tomato looked bigger than the 23.7 ounce one I harvested just before I went on vacation, but now I’ll never know just how big it got. Serves me right for going away at the height of the harvest!

The bamboo stakes supporting tomato plants loaded with fruit failed spilling the top heavy tomato laden plants out onto the lawn, looks like we had some wind based on that evidence and the number of tree limbs down. Note to self, cut stouter bamboo stakes next season. My son did the best he could to keep up with the garden, but the weather wasn’t very helpful and a few of my bamboo supports weren’t up to the task.

Before the storm came through, I mowed the lawn - even though it didn't really need it, I didn't want to do it when it is really hot out! The brief thunderstorms came through after I was done, the first two with little rain, the last one, putting it up to about .6", then it got sunny.

Like I said it's going to be a good year for spiders.
Had to gently nudge this feller out of the way with my finger to close the garage door.

RAIN, RAIN RAIN!

Yesterday afternoon and early evening we got a full 3" of rain that came down heavily during four different intervals. There was not a puddle or standing water anywhere by late evening. The earth just sucked it all up. I can hear a collective sigh of relief from all the vegetation out there. No doubt the lawn and veggies will start growing like crazy. You can hand water all you want but there's nothing like good old rain water to make stuff happy. :D

A possibility of some later on this afternoon. I hope!

First day here in a long, long time without any rainfall. Getting pretty warm, but we haven’t yet cracked 90 degrees for 2021. Healthy sea breeze off the gulf tamping down the temperatures.

MORE RAIN!!! Since mid afternoon we've had about three storms march through. No wind (thank goodness for the corn's sake!) but driving rain. So far we have 1.8" and I hear more grumbles coming.

Got to 94° today - hottest day so far in the heat wave, and humidity disgusting! It was only 73° around 7 am, when I first went out, but 100% humidity, since there was dew all over. It's supposed to get better (more than 20° lower) later in the week, which I am looking forward to!

Wet and windy here Down Under. Be a good inch and a half in the gauge, winds to 35 mph locally, no doubt higher in hills. Lost power just as I finished wash up. Thankfully we have a tank on a stand for water to toilet and switchable to be taps for this situation.

Well... we had our high of 26C/ 79F and humidex 30C/ 86F yesterday.
Today also started out warm and sunny. But then the wind changed midafternoon to NE and dropped below 50 F in a hurry.
Tomorrow the forecast high is... 3C!!! Yes that's 37 F.  Welcome to chaos.
Plus 20-25mm rain, drizzle and fog, maybe even a few flakes of snow.
Got row cover over my baby peas and sunflowers just sprouting through the ground.

We ended up with 6.0" over four days. That should hold us a little while. Never did see a puddle an hour after each rain. ;)

Very soggy down here. Almost 5" on Monday with almost 4" more since then...yeah, there was a bit of standing water between me and the house next door...
