Hello to all over the pond

Hi there,

Just joined today from little old town called Emsworth in the uk. Been growing stuff for many years but recently investing lots of time in my raised beds and in particular tomatoes. Learned so much over the last six months from good folks such as yourselves online, in videos and blogs. But still consider myself such as amateur. Looking to experiment on crossing and growing out stable crosses and perfecting good care for plants rather than plant feed and hope of previous years (although not had many complaints from the veggies) but want to look to maximise efforts. When you pick that veg and put it in front of your kids for dinner there ain't nothing like the freshness and taste and food don't grow on a supermarket shelf.

Looking forward to learning from you all and hopefully contributing a personal tip or two of my own.

Regards,
Sean

Thank you for the welcome. I shall try. Experimenting with vermicomposting in bins submerged in raised beds. Early days but plants closest seem to fair so much better. Just got to keep up with the voracious appetite of the worms...

Yes, welcome to the Junction. Must be nice and mild there near the English Channel. Nearby Winchester is a place I do one day wish to visit, as it was the sort of the capitol of Alfred’s Wessex. England is such a lovely country. Hope to hear about all the wonderful produce you grow and that hopefully will thrive in what I imagine is such a benign and gentle climate.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. Yes it is quite a benign climate compared to many of yours, it can be a challenge with the constant drip drip of showers (think blight) but overall nothing extreme to contend with. Does puzzle me though sometimes why the country grinds to a half when we get a couple of feet of snow!

Karstopography, you simply must make the journey to Hampshire and winchester. And all along the South coast where I live is steeped in historical interest.

A quick p.s. To worth1 - if you've not got an oil well, then you must have a cattle ranch - am I right ? :-)

Thanks all.

Welcome aboard! We have lots in common climate wise although a cooler shorter season here, the drip, drip is enough to make any tomato lover turn to breeding. ;) Keep us updated on your crosses, I'll be posting the news about mine a bit later when I have some fruit to look at! (I hope!!! )
