What are these eggs? Do I need to destroy them?

I would guess fruitworm eggs, and thus would remove them.

If something lays eggs on your plants, the babies are going to hatch out and eat your plants. This is fine if it's on your milkweed- it would be baby monarch butterfly caterpillars. But if it's a plant you want to remain whole, remove.

Quite often this is the case, but There are exceptions when it comes to predators. Lady bugs and lacewing immediately come to mind. I think you gotta learn if it's a friend or foe.

If it was me, I'd snip off that half of the leaf, put it in a glass jar with some gauze or flimsy fabric rubber-banded over the top, and watch to see what hatches out. Then you'll know for next time.

That is an excellent suggestion.

For sure they aren't ladybug eggs which are orange or yellowish. I found almost identical eggs like in the pic today on the back if an eggplant leaf. They were surrounded by those small black aphid-like bugs that are harmful so I just got rid of the leaf. Last year I had plenty of ladybug eggs but this year none :(

Assassin bugs lay eggs on plants.
