I was recently gifted some seeds for a variety called "Mar Azul" by a current member here at The Junction. Other than the link below, I can't find out much about it. Has anybody here grown it, and , if so, what can you tell me about it? It's a gorgeous tomato!

I grew it 2018. It is a hybrid and not allowed to make seeds and grow them, it is patented.

I growed Mar Azurl - I didn't know anything about this tomato. My French exchange partner told me that it is a hybrid...
and that I shouldn't do this.

Yes it's a hybrid one, it's from a factory Syngenta (well known in France for having made the Kumato variety). It's the spanish version, but the tomato is not the best one, difficult to know when it's on maturity. You have it on all market in Spain during august. But very high prize, not very best tomato as old tomatoes from spanish like 'morado de la cabrera', 'rosado de la sierra de aracena' or the most important for spanish people the 'rosa de barbastro'.

Seems existing and non-hybrid one named 'mas azul' but impossible to have or working in spanish Syngenta company. It's like in French version of the japan tomato 'Kuma' which is the parent of Kumato.

I've yet to find a great tasting "antho" variety. The best I've tried is Sgt. Peppers, a heart shaped variety.

I love the taste of Dark Galaxy. The tomatoes are small, 1-3 oz.

My two favorite blues are Black Beauty and Red Beauty. Fresh, Red Beauty tastes like tomato soup, if you like tomato soup.

Jackie has good flavor, but I haven't had many ounces of harvest from it. It would probably produce more out east.

Tried it. A typical antho for me, weak flavored, which was likely a positive because the taste itself wasn't very good. The same flavor, in a stronger strength, might have made it objectionable.

I have tried a few antho tomatoes. I am done. There are so many amazing pinks and blacks out there, (now Tormato will be after me) that I see no reason to be trying any of these. This is just according to my taste buds though.

I had it two years ago. It was really interesting, to find a blue tomato in the market at the beginning of the winter. I didn't know the name, but saved the seeds. I think, that I am not a big fan of blue tomatoes.

Did you grow it out from your saved seed? Can you comment on the taste?

I dont like most anthos either. There is one I found thats great tasting. Brad's Atomic Grape. Its an elongated cherry, sweet and delicious. Most anthos are disgusting.

Ive tried Black Beauty. Beautiful, productive as all getout, and disgusting tasting. I've also grown Dark Queen -meh! And Sargeant Peppers. Yuck!

I grow them from seeds I've saved. As you see , they are dark blue. They were in full sun and had the possibility to mature in good conditions. They look interesting, but I didn't like the taste. It was flavorless for me. As a hybrid it may be designed for a commercial production and controlled growing conditions.

The whole thing. Antho seems to bring the flavor of tomatoes down.

I’m another thumbs down on the taste of anthos. Plus, they seem to just hate my N. Florida conditions.

Last chance for anthos will be Atomic Fusion this season.
