Thought I would start a thread for people that like to read.
I have a vast library so I can re read books for the rest of my life.

I' rereading Dune, the whole cycle. I'm on Children of Dune now. I want to finish them all in the 370 days left until Villneuve's new film adaptation comes out.

I'm reading the Royal Spyness mysteries by Rhys Bowen, for the umpteenth time. Love those. Another favorite is the sf/fantasy series The Invisible Library.

A female friend of mine in high school could plow through 2 thick books in about three days simultaneously.
I said female friend so you wouldn't think it was a girl friend sort of thing.
She was also my Wednesday night domino partner.
Tuesday night spades partner.
Her dad and mine were partners.
Juanita Styer was her name and they had a pet guard goose named Goosey Gander.

Does it count that I order and collect books but always never get around reading them coz I am constantly distracted by other stuff e.g. tomatoes

On a darker side Juanita could out fight anyone in school.
One day someone pulled a knife on her all in good fun.
She had his knife in her hand and at his throat in the blink of an eye.
All in good fun.
Smartest person I ever met in my life.
Right now I'm starting a book I haven't read in so long I dont remember reading it.
I push through them in about 4 days including a weekend.
My oldest book is a bible from the 1800's

Reading Ad Hoc At Home, because I love to read cookbooks.
Also reading The Farthest Shore in the Earthsea series. (Ursula K. Le Guin)

I read juvenile fiction, mostly, lately (fiction for ages 12 and under). Within that, fantasy and historical fiction are some top choices. I also like public domain fiction on Gutenberg, LibriVox and such. It's easier to find clean stuff for kids, and from among books that were published a long time ago.

Books from my youth I remember fondly: Time at the Top, The Silver Crown, My Side of the Mountain (which I know is still in print).

Rereading Game of Thrones

I picked up the field manual for the 155 Howitzer for 50 cents at a store and actually read the thing.

I go thru phases. Won't read anything for months then go on a long binge. I have so many I can't remember what I've read and what I haven't. Had a good friend who's FIL is a retired college professor and just recently moved/downsized. I am the lucky recipient of a huge box of civil war related books. Looking forward to getting into them.

For a while I was really stuck on DragonLance. I think I have three cartons of those books. A nice escape when reality closes in.

I'll never be able to read Dune. I saw the movie.

I believe I used the gift pack first-nighters received as fire-starter for my wood burning stove.

Why? The movie was problematic, mainly because Lynch lost creative control and the version that came out was edited without him. But that movie hit the tone and the atmosphere just right. Even Herbert liked it. And is now a cult film. In exactly a year the new adaptation is coming out, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049). The cast is stellar.

I find that a movie based on a book the book is worth reading.
A book based on a movie not so much.
The movie Shooter was a very crappy excuse for the series of books starting with "Point Of Impact" it was based on.
All of the books are well worth reading if you like that sort of thing.
Much of them based on the area I was raised up in and traveled those same woods hunting.

I found both of the Dune movies (1984, 2008) to be boring, I just couldn't keep up my interest. Maybe because I knew where they were going, but .... do try the first book. The characters are more fully developed and you understand their motivation. Too much skipped over in the movies.

(Don't suppose those who quoted me earlier can change theirs, but I didn't see my typo for the 2nd date, which was the 2008 movie -not 2020 which I have never seen, obviously!)

It is very hard to express thought in a movie if at all.
I know good and well I read at least the first Dune book but it was very long ago.
For Book Worms books are always better, 'it is just the nature of things.

I have read quite a few Stephen Hunter books, including the latest, although I might have missed a few earlier ones. I need to get a list and check off the ones I missed. Even the name of the main character "Bob Lee Swagger" peaked my interest.
