King Parrots
I have mentioned on here before that the wild king Parrots Mum and Dads are fairly quiet and come looking for a feed. Well, the folks believe that the females are Sitting on eggs at the moment, only males coming for the seeds. One is really quite. Totally wild bird this one

beautiful. I wonder why tropical birds are so much more colorful than the temperate forest birds...

Yes they are lovely birds and it's nice that they will allow you to feed them. How large of a colony do you have?

Not sure MissS, will ask Mum next time I am talking to her. From what I understand, numbers normally vary and may well be higher than normal due to birds that moved out of the fire zone in the summer just gone being around. That said that one pictured is probably a long-term local and the quietest of them

Upto 16 birds at one time apparently, but generally less depending upon the weather is the word

Re: King Parrots
They have Monk parakeets In Austin in several places some colony's as big as 300 or so.
Story has it that some escaped from cages back in the 70's.
Others just let go because they were to noisy.
We also have other types of parrots too.

I had to look up the Monk Parakeet (image below). It's not right to allow captive creatures into the wild in areas where they are not native. So often it is fatal to the animal/bird/reptile/insect or if they survive they can then play havoc with the ecosystem.

Luckily they have thrived and come from an area with sort if the same climate.MissS wrote: ↑Sun Nov 08, 2020 10:13 am I had to look up the Monk Parakeet (image below). And they dont seem to hurt anything here that I know of.
Not not always the case.
Untold thousands of these birds were imported into the US.

Re: King Parrots
Spoke to Mum tonight, she mentioned that she went looking for Dad at one stage during the day while it was raining and he was sitting on the ramp from the door in the garage hand feeding about 20 King Parrots.
