Needing opinions on everyone’s favorite Bush Bean. I usually grow Pole beans but, elderly Mom is requesting a bush bean stringless.
Would be for fresh eating and canning. Thanks for your help! :) Zone 6b.

i was gifted a bulk bag of provider beans, so have planted those the past two years.
they will provide you with a lot of beans for fresh eating, freezing or canning.

jumbo for a bush romano bean.
blue ribbon is a purple streaked bush bean i like.

i think it is easier picking pole beans than bush beans, less stooping,
and crouching involved. two thirds of the beans can be picked while
standing without having to bend over.

Maxibel has been our favorite for years. Picked young, it's a haricots vert, skinny, tender, and oh so tasty.

Maxibel Haricots Vert are my favorite as well but I do not can them, just for fresh eating at my house.

My grandma always grew strike, but in recent years they did not seem to be as small and tender. We have switched to jade as a green bean for market sales.

Blue Ribbon
Jumbo
Roma II
Romano Bush

These are all flat podded "romano" types. In my opinion, much better flavored than round podded types. They aren't the best for canning.

Contender and Provider. They produce a lot and they're quick enough that they finish up before the real heat sets in. Then the fall crop finishes before frost. I've also done Jade and it does well too.

Romano/Roma types have the best flavor. I like the yellow Roma's because it's easier to see the beans to pick them. If you want the string beans, (stringless), I like the thin purple bean, because the purple color makes finding and picking so much easier. They turn green when frozen or cooked.

My favorite is Calima. Very tender and productive. I've never tried canning them, but they freeze well.

Dragon Tongue and Romano are my favorites. Provider does give you a nice crop though.

Another option is Asian long beans. I have plenty of seeds of a bush type. This one laughs at the heat.

And, I'm half done listing the bush (common) beans over at the MMMM Beans thread.
