So some of my early peppers i want to now bush out a bit so have lopped off the tops to encourage further growth down lower. I have placed the tops in water to encourage rooting and after a couple of days they still seem to be doing okay. Will this work ? Does anyone do this ?

It will! Provided the tops were still relatively "green" and not woody, it should take.

Thanks Rockoe10 . They are still looking good so i shall persevere, should be a nice quick way to multiple the plants out.

I love propagating by cuttings, its my favorite. I find changing the water often helps a great deal. Especially with those hard to root plants.

That is cool, I didn't know it could be done with peppers. :)

I have done this with peppers before, putting them in my hydroponics to root them, and almost every one of them rooted. They rooted better when I used a knife to lightly scar the stems - same thing that helps when I do this with basil cuttings.

Yup roots are coming through good. Key tip is make sure the node is under water, this is where the roots sprout from.
