Christmas Shopping.
In my case Unintentional Christmas shopping.
I go to the store early as usual to beat the crowds.
No idea what I wanted but went anyway because I must need something, right.
No deals on anything I needed so I get some odds and ends like ground chuck and hamburger buns for homemade hamburgers today.
About out of bourbon so I stop by that place only to discover the liquor store doesn't open for 30 minutes at 10:00 AM.
No way am I going to sit there and wait for the liquor store to open as it might give a bad impression.
Walmart is in the same block area so I go there.
I haven't been to Walmart in over a year so I went looking for something they might have.
As I go around the isles they dont have what they used to have.
What to do?
I am being watched I know, I can feel it in my bones, 'Some stranger walking around with nothing in his cart.
Eyes are upon me for sure.
Even the associates are talking about some shop lifter they are tracking and what he drives.
Then I get to the kitchen section and I remember I wanted to look for a larger bowl to eat out of.
I pick out two white porcelain bowls that are made by the same people and match what I have but round and somewhat shallow.
Perfect for what I eat in but haven't had for many years.
I get to the self checkout and insert my card.
To my horror I am on a little video screen in front of me looking back at myself.
As I am walking to my truck I wonder if I am going to be accosted and asked to see my receipt or even worse.
I get home and they hold one quart of liquid and still more than enough sloshing.
Total Christmas shopping cost for me was $12.90 cents for two white porcelain bowls.
I need a stiff drink after Christmas shopping at Walmart and I did remember to stop off to get my bourbon.
Merry Christmas Happy New year and most of all Mas Tamales.

That's technology today...a 2 edged sword worth. it has made life much better and much worse...take your pick on your perception of it. It's about all you can do now.

It spooked me but I like the idea of the video of me using my card.upcountrygirl wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 12:30 pm That's technology today...a 2 edged sword worth. it has made life much better and much worse...take your pick on your perception of it. It's about all you can do now.
But no one in their right mind would use my card if not allowed to while knowing they were being videoed, 'Or would they?
There are some really stupid thieves out there.

Re: Christmas Shopping.
I'll have to check out the video thing. But I absolutely hate using the self check out because there's always something I have that it doesn't recognize and I have to find someone to help me. Usually there's three or four "assistants" hanging around the self checkout with nothing to do but the time I need one, nobody's around. Geez!
I decided a while ago to just ignore the self checkout and use a real live cashier who needs that job.
Glad you found your b-o-w-l-s! White porcelain intestines would have been interesting.

Re: Christmas Shopping.
Bowls sounds like a nice Christmas treat
I had to shop yesterday for a few groceries but I picked up some treats too, that I don't usually buy. Mushrooms, peppers, cranberries.
Gifts for my peeps are as usual, the good things from this year's harvest that you can tuck in for the winter - garlic, a few dried herbs, fruit jellies. That is pretty much what it means to us, have a special meal and tuck in for the season with something good. Sweet treats I do make as well, we'll see what I get done. Friends coming to cut a Christmas tree tomorrow, and we'll have a lunch together. We do this every year and I love it, it kicks me off for the season. Cooking and baking is on!

Re: Christmas Shopping.
Speaking of Christmas shopping I heard on my favorite radio program where a guy bought an inflatable Santa.
To his surprise it inflated to a massive thing around 25 feet tall.
He thought he was getting an 8 foot tall Santa.
When they said 8 foot tall it clicked immediately, the guy doesn't know his metric system.
8 meters is a little over 26 feet.
I bet the advertisement on Amazon said 8 meters and he thought, 'as many do, that a meter is close to a foot.
