Very nice photo. Something very appealing about seeing dogs and cats that are buddies. I never had that -my one and only dog was afraid of my cats.

Just looking at the picture makes me cry.
If I were to try and write the stories I would need a case of Kleenex.
Mostly because it would be a domino effect leading from one event to another.
These and many more pets were my wife and myselfs family and children.
I only have Smokey left and I'm very lonely.

This is Sugar, munching on some hemp, and her calf Stormy, who was a difficult birth. She was attacked by vultures and pecked on the tongue, which swole up and kept her from being able to nurse. My girlfriend and I tube fed her, basically force fed, for the first two weeks of her life. Eventually, she figured out how to nurse with her big tongue still hanging out.

Sugar is pushing 20 years old. She was my grandmas pet cow, bottle raised in a dog pen beside their house. She has always eaten out of anyone's hand. She did sneak into my moms open garage one friday before farmers market and help herself to several melons and tomatoes, but for the most part never caused trouble.

Grandma passed away almost two years ago. I was with her every day in the nursing home. I feel like we put up the good fight. There were a lot of tears at her funeral, but I felt like I had no regrets. I did everything I could. There is satisfaction in that. No one lives forever, right? I am at peace with her passing...except for Sugar. She is getting so old that she can barely get around. I am going to have a come apart when that old cow dies.

On the bright side, Stormy is now running with the neighbor's herd and bull. We hope to have a new baby from her this fall. Circle of life.

Some pictures are unbearable as they just bring on sadness and overwhelming feeling of loss. Not the ‘happy memories’ that everyone speaks of.

This is Carlos, the last of my mill dog rescues. He was euthanized Dec 14. It's been a difficult month. He had a wonderful personality. Everyone who met him wanted to take him home. :-) The good news is he had a good life with us for the last 10 years. This was taken about a month before he died, age 15 1/2.

Folks I watch and subscribe to the Rubin Report on YouTube.
Here is his little puppy dog he had to have put down.'
Farewell and god speed Emma.
Here is what Dave had to say.
"We let Emma move on today at the ripe old age of 16. Adopted her in New York City in June of 2006 after she survived Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. She managed to not only survive but give birth to three puppies during the hurricane, one of whom we reunited her with 13 years later. She lived in New Orleans, New York City and LA, climbed the stairs of the Lincoln memorial, went to The White House and visited the Grand Canyon. Truly a life well lived. We will love and miss you forever, Emma..."

Rest In Peace Mozart. He was a yellow cockatiel. I don't know anything about his early life except that someone begged us to take him & his mate because they were being neglected. He lived with us for about 10 years, in a room where he was free-flying with other cockatiels & smaller birds. He was known for serenading my mother and I as we cleaned the room each week. He always had a mate, and liked to sit on the mildly warm lampshade with her. Goodbye, my little yellow friend.

I lost my best buddy about 8 years ago. his name was Sam, he was half Siamese an half ??? He had a 6th sense, anytime your butt hit a chair he'd be there to share the seat and get as much attention as you were willing to give. He loved everybody and loved attention. He was a great help in the garden keeping me company when I was outside working and followed me everywhere. We finally had to put him down at age 21 due to cataracks in both eyes and felt he was too old for surgery and wouldnt survive. Wish I could post a pic but "I dont know how, he was a handsome boy !

I feel guilty for saying this but I shed more tears when we lost him then my own mother. Devatstating loss for me !

Don't feel guilty about it.
Your choice your feelings and no one's business but your own.
You can't change who you are.
I have a fondness for critters too.
I cried more for my wife and still do more so than my mom and dad.
I cried for days over a tom cat I had named Cruiser.
Took two days off from work.
His last night he was cuddled up to me in bed like he always did from the time he was a kitten.
The next day we put him to sleep due to cancer.
Not operable.

He was 31 inches long from head to tail.
Not an ounce of fat and tough as nails.
He was fixed too.
Rode in the truck with me and would get out in any strange place and follow me like a dog.
Vets office he had his own chair and didn't bother anyone.
Time to leave he would follow me back to the truck or whatever vehicle we came in.

Tomorrow if I get the courage to tell it a story about a dog named Lady that will blow your mind.
The only person I ever told this story to was my fishing buddy last Sunday.
Held it in for close to 50 years because it is so brutal but with a happy ending.

It is possible to buy rain coats for dogs. One can spend lots of money on the things but I never bought one. I now make my Roland's winter coats having worked out a pattern that works for boy dogs.
But this dog in the picture, Toby was a truly hippy type dog who didn't care. He followed his nose happily into anything or anywhere there might be a scrap to eat. He used to hunt for what crows had hidden on a hill in the seaside park and then get sick from it. A doggie dog. Roll in the stinky herring egg laden seaweed and then have the nerve to get into the car and make us retch. Ate so much at a company picnic he was groaning when we got home. That kind of dog.
Once, on the west coast of this island, daughter and I had a few days some of which were a bit wet. I landed on this method of keeping Toby mostly dry. He didn't complain. Got lots of comments. He was like a walking sign for the grocery store.
It is a grocery bag. They fit him just right and stayed on well. Always handy and certainly thrifty!
He lived to be 16 1/2 yrs old. He was fun, goofy and well loved.

When kittens attack...they still look cute.
