Freezing Pears

Anyone tried freezing pears whole? Want to make a Perry (hard pear Cider) so I don’t care if the pears turn to mush after freezing, I’m looking to have the juice released anyway. Just wondering if freezing pears whole has been done and if so, what were the results.

Pears on my tree will likely ripen in the summer, but I don’t want to make the perry until fall.

I read on line people do it with pears and other fruits all the time.

I freeze my pears in slices in a light sugar syrup and then freeze them. I peel the pears and slice them and then heat briefly in the syrup to blanch them. We eat them over the winter and they taste very fresh.

brownrexx I did see that being done on my web searches. I might do some that way and then try to freeze some whole. Just have the one old tree that this year seems to have a goodly number of pears on it. Want to also infuse some in a neutral spirit.

The frozen slices are really good. Sometimes I serve then cold and sometimes I heat them and add some cinnamon. Both ways are really good.

That sounds really tasty, pears and cinnamon. I can imagine slightly reheating them and adding a touch of Madagascan Vanilla ice-cream and I think I'd be somewhere between here and nirvana
