What do you like on your hotdogs? Do you always use hotdog buns, or do you ever use bread?

I like ketchup/mustard and dill relish. I tried lettuce on a hotdog once and it was pretty good. Never tried tomatoes. I'm not particular about whether I use a bun or bread, but when I was a kid, I preferred buns.

And what brand of hotdogs do you prefer, with which kind(s) of meat? I probably prefer Jennie-O turkey franks or something like that; no, maybe not Jennie-O. Maybe it was a store brand. Some kind of turkey franks, but not just any kind. The thin ones that don't taste like cloves. Not the jumbo ones. They used to be easier to find, but they're hard to find, now. I haven't found them in years. Hotdogs I've had most recently have all had strange textures or flavors/smells.

Oh, and how do you like them cooked?

I prefer them either boiled or grilled. If they're grilled, I'm not as particular about it being turkey.

Only Ezekiel sprouted bread in this household. Ketchup and cheese and sometimes dill slices and sometimes beans. Dogs without nitrates high on the list. However my better half chooses to cook them. If I had a choice it would be boiled.

Oh, your mention of beans means reminds me that I forgot about chili dogs. I like those; I feel like they're great with onions. Corndogs and pigs in a blanket, too.

Grilled over boiled, but boiled isn’t bad. Hebrew National.
Toppings, mustard and sweet relish, or chili, cheese and chopped onions, or grilled or fresh peppers and grilled onions, hot or sweet peppers or a mix and maybe some mustard with those.

Buns, toasted. Sweet Hawaiian or potato or regular, but toasted is preferred.

New England hot dog bun, lightly buttered, lightly toasted. Boiled Nathan's Famous. Nothing else.

Homemade Boston baked beans on the side, with bacon, onion, molasses, brown sugar, maple syrup, garlic, and I don't know why I add dry mustard as I can never taste it.

@Tormato Nathan’s famous is good, but extra salty. My wife likes Nathan’s.

Yeah, I wish there was a lower sodium version. I'm not a fan of salty foods, but a Nathan's Famous is about the only exception. It must be the garlic flavor, not found in other dogs.

You don't boil hotdogs or sausage you heat them up in water at around 160F and then grill or griddle them.
The no nitrate and nitrite thing is a hoax.
The celery powder contains nitrates but the FDA doesn't allow the label to say cured because of the fluctuations of the nitrate in the powder.
The nitrates break down into nitrites which in turn cures the meat.
I have the insta cure # 1 that contains nitrites for curing sausage and other meats.
I have Insta cure # 2 that contains nitrates and nitrites for stuff like dried sausage salami and so on that needs to hang for quite some time.
The nitrates break down over time to nitrites.
Do as you wish but your throwing your money away due to a con job by meat packers.

I don't know if it's healthy, but adding vitamin C powder to the water when boiling hotdogs removes the nitrate flavor from the meat (and makes the hotdogs so they don't make me so thirsty). It does react with nitrates somehow, but I don't know what reaction happens.

I used to buy pure sodium nitrite from the drug store.
The insta cure # 1 contains 6.25% sodium nitrite the rest is salt and a coloring agent to make it pink.
One level teaspoon will cure 5 pounds of meat.
A teaspoon of salt weights about 6 grams.
6.25 % of 6 is 0.375 of a gram.
So there you have it.
5 pounds of meat will have 0.375 of a gram of sodium nitrite in it.
It's powerful stuff and has saved many lives.

As far as vitamin C the bottle of fruit fresh is vitamin C.
Slowly heating up the sausage or hotdogs helps remove a lot of salt and it heats up the meat evenly without cooking out the fat.
Plus it can be put on hold in the water before grilling.
This allows for everyone to have a nice juicy fresh sausage.
Nothing but the best for people I cook for.

Boiled only for my hotdog. Any amount of grilling turns the skin slightly bitter.

Too many ways to make a hotdog to be happy with just one.
I actually prefer the non American sausage on a bun over the traditional American hotdog.
Something like a nice Krispy bratwurst or knackwurst.
But not the nasty things they call knackwurst by the big meat packing companies.
If I eat one of these it's going to be with a good spicy mustard with a little mayonnaise mixed in.
Just like I had in Germany from the many stalls they had.

I'm not picky about what kind of hot dog it is but for me hot dogs aren't something I'll lay out bigger bucks for. Cheapies are just fine as hotdogs here are usually just something grabbed when a sudden urge for one hits late afternoon or in the evening. Grilled are great but more often than not they'll come out of the freezer "as is" and get nuked. Buns are good but bread will do if there aren't any buns in the freezer.

If I buy a hotdog while out and about, I'll go for a chili dog with slaw (if available). It's a Southern thing I was introduced to in college. At home it will usually be mustard, ketchup and diced onions.

There are so many variations of bratwurst to pick from.
I like the ones with finely ground meat and they are hard to come by.
I have to make my own most of the time.
And they have to have nutmeg in them.

Kosher all beef hot dogs. (If there's a bone chip in the dog, I'll find it. Kosher has less bone).
Grilled over microwaved; microwaved over boiled.
Buns over bread. Toasted over raw.
Cheese, a little kraut, ketchup & mustard.

Also fond of a bunless hot dog dipped in ketchup.

I'm not allowed to have these on my plate anymore due to the sodium but I prefer Nathan's or Kirkland's. Prefer a bun but will use bread in a pinch. I like them steamed or grilled with celery salt in the water or sprinkled on them, onions, mustard, tomato or kraut, with sweet relish.

I am in Wisconsin too and know about a good brat but a brat is a whole other sausage and is nothing like a hot dog.
