Winter 2021/22 Container Tomatoes
Only going to do about eight plants, mostly in fabric pots. Growing them under my eaves on the leeward side so I can control how much water they get.
Dad’s Sunset
Big Zac
Ziegler’s Fleisch
Brandy Boy
Ananas Noir
Neves Azorean Red
Right now NAR is looking like a stud of a seedling, hopefully that continues. They’re ready to put out in the afternoon sun for a few days, then into the pots they go!
Anticipating powdery mildew and lots of leaf miners, but hopefully if I keep those at bay I’ll get a few fruits out of them.

NAR has always been a strong plant for me. It will need plenty of support.

@MissS
Thanks, planning on pruning to one stem on most of these just to keep things simpler and more compact.

Nice looking plants! Is winter the typical tomato season in HI? Or is year-round an option?

On my side of the island summer is best. Winter gets too wet. We had a little over 25 inches of rain in December, so crazy diseases and splitting.
So I throw some under the eaves in winter where I can control the water they get. Nothing like summer but better than nothing.

Re: Winter 2021/22 Container Tomatoes
Got sick of these kids not pulling their weight so I dragged the skinny one outside last night to do some night ops, planted cover crop. Then I got the chubby one to do some reading and make some recommendations for summer veggies. Nice to have some help around here.

Some progress, Ananas Noir and Neves Azorean Red are doing really well, but all plants have set fruit. @OhioGardener your microdwarf Premus is looking like an indeterminate over here!

Re: Winter 2021/22 Container Tomatoes
Premus shouldn't get over 1 - 1.5 ft, but it's not a micro-dwarf. It's a short growing semi-determinate and has a fruiting period that lasts 3-4 weeks. How tall is your plant and did you prune it to a single stem like a normal tomato? I'm wondering if that might have made a difference? Normally I don't prune this variety at all and it forms several stout tree stem (Russian = shtambovyi) type branches laden with fruit. Leaves should be corrugated and are normally larger than the leaves on your plant.

Haven’t pruned it, no. I think maybe being in only afternoon sun has it stretching a bit. My Brandy Boy next to it is pretty leggy as well. Sorry for miscategorizing, didn’t have my notes handy.

Still trucking, Neves Azorean Red is about to give me its first ripe fruit, got a fatty Brandy Boy on deck as well. Starting to top these plants because I started my summer seeds for the garden, so time to wind these down.

All the plants have been topped, pruned all trusses to three fruits, now just time to watch them ripen. Hopefully my timing works out and my summer tomatoes are ready just about when these run out.

Yummmm. This will probably be the last post on this thread. Time to focus on the next batch of plants.
I know the grow log section is pretty low traffic, but it sure will be good to look back two or three (or ten?) years from now and see what I had going.

It looks like you had a very good season without any disease issues either!

Sure did! I used Sulfur a few times to get after an unidentified brown speck/spot, but other than that snuck through. Fingers crossed for summer!
