Micro Dwarfs in Aerogarden

Does anyone here grow Dwarfs in Aerogardens in the winter? I have one 6 pod AG with lettuces - 3 of the 6 came up (the pods were 3 years old). I will definitely grow lettuce again but will choose my own varieties. These 3 plants are keeping hubby and I in side salads at least twice a week but not a big fan of the tough red and green leaf lettuces that came in their pods.

In my 9 pod, I am growing 2 basils, a curly parsley and 3 dwarf tomatoes; the thyme did not come up (more old pods).I bought empty pods, Micro Dwarf seed from Renaissance Farms (a few great purchasing experiences this Fall!) and have 2 Window Box red and 1 Hahms Gelb yellow growing. Next year I will start seed as my garden is dying off and then maybe start 2 plants, then wait and start 2 more plants. I didn't start this AG until mid-late November so we are still waiting on our first crop. So nice to be able to run your hands over a plant and smell tomatoes - especially on a cold, yucky day like today!!!!

My husband is hooked - he wants another AG!

You may want to supplement the light if possible for anything flowering or fruiting.

I figured out that the tomato Aerogarden was planted Dec. 5. The two tallest plants are 6" and budding. This morning we have our first bud opening! The smaller Aerogarden is still pumping out lettuce.

I so wish I had started this WAY earlier. For next year, I'd like another 9 pod for lettuce and would grow probably 5 lettuce plants in it and then maybe a month or so later start 4 in the empty pods. I will use the 6 pod for herbs.

A benefit to the Aerogardens this time of year is they brighten up the interior of the house which can be a bit dull on dreary, wintery days. I wouldn't bother to use them during the course of my normal growing season though. I enjoy being outside and working with my plants in the dirt.
