Tomato Variety Spreadsheet

Before I go to a LOT of work, I am wondering if there is any interest in starting a Google Doc for Tomato Junction members that will list tomato varieties and their characteristics? This doc would be hidden from non-members and members would be able to modify it to add new varieties and descriptions. Another option would be that members would post new information in a post and there would be a few people with access that could modify the sheet.

I think that while this will be a huge undertaking, it would be nice to have our own database for looking up varieties. I can see this being of great use to Tormato and those getting seeds from the Mostly Mystery Mater Mailing. The hardest part would be that we will need your help and cooperation to maintain the list. It was far too much work for Tatianna to do but if we all work together it just might be possible. The list will take many many hours to create.

So if we do this, how much interest is there and who would be willing to share in the work?

Of course if anyone knows how to upload all of the knowledge in Tormato's head then we wouldn't have so much work left to do.

That would be great. It is a good idea to just let a few people have access to the edit function.

I definitely would be interested in this! I've been working on my spreadsheet of the varieties I received from MMMM, thinking all the while "I'm sure someone else has already done all this, much better than me," and wondering how many other MMMM participants are doing the exact same thing.

I'd be happy to help if there's something I can contribute. I don't have much heirloom knowledge or experience, but I can type and I can google.

Good idea. I recommend the option of members posting new information in a post and selected members / mods update the sheet.
