• Looking for Polish, can't find mine

Hi, I pulled all the seed packets yesterday for tomatoes I'm going to sow today, and can't for the life of me find the small bag of Polish. I looked everywhere, perhaps it fell or I threw it out by accident. I've never tried this variety & this was the year I was determined to grow it. I can do a SASE or trade. Thank you!

I have "Polish Elles" from Sand Hill Preservation. Does that help you?

I've been assuming it's the same thing as Polish (Ellis), but I don't actually know that. No one else seems to carry anything called "Polish Elles," though.

Polish Ellis is a different tomato than Polish which is described in Carolyn's 100 tomatoes. Now it is very possible that Polish C and Polish are the same tomato. Polish Ellis was introduced to the SSE by a man named Ellis who grew a Polish tomato. I have seed for Both Polish Ellis and Polish C but not for Polish.

Victory Seed carries Polish if you don't find any here on the forum.

I Tried the Polish seeds from Sand Hill back in 2017 and they were not the same as the Polish
Craig describes in his book Epic Tomatoes. I then got the real deal from Craig and there was a big difference. Just saying FWIW.

@Yak54 , that's the Polish I am looking for, from Craig. I read his recent blog & he raves about it, so I remembered I had a few from a member here a few years ago.
Interesting, how the same variety can taste so different depending on the source.

Does anyone know if my assumption is correct, that the tomato Sand Hill sells as "Polish Elles" is in fact Polish Ellis? It's printed on the package and still listed on the website as Elles, not as Ellis.

My previous comment was my experience in 2017. I think I remember Craig commenting to me in 2019 that he should send some new Polish seed to Glenn at Sandhill. If he in fact did then the Polish seed Sandhill has these days (2022) should be the real deal. Only way to know for sure is to ask Glenn or Craig.

Since Sand Hill doesn't list Polish Ellis, a fairly popular variety, and Polish Elles is unheard of to me until now, I'd say it's a 99.9% chance of a misspelling.

Being half Polish, I've trialed the Polish varieties that I could find. If I remember correctly, I rated Polish Ellis a bit above Polish C and Polish. Not grown in the same year, weather conditions may have played a part. All being pink beefsteaks, it's almost impossible to not have an excellent tomato. Most pink beefsteaks I'd rate about 8.5 to 9. There are a few better, the 9+ ones.

I'm with you 100% on pink beefsteaks. My top 5 or 6 favorite tomatoes are pink beefsteaks and I also give them 8.5 to 9 ratings. I soon may be adding AGP to my favorite list.

Pinks are my favorites hands down. Most I grow are pinks. Looking forward to trying Polish!

AGP and SOTW are my two 9.9s, as there are no 10s. Maybe a dozen, or so, 9.5s, all pink beefsteaks except SunGold, and one or two hearts. This site may have the bandwidth to handle my list of all the 8.5 to 9 pink beefsteaks and red and pink hearts.

Yes Sir SOTW is a 9 for me also. I been growing it since 2014 and won't be with out it. I'm excited to be able to grow AGP this season for the first time. Looking forward to another 9 !
