While I was out today I noticed this cherry tomato and bought it on impulse because of the photo on the tag.

I'm aiming to put my tomato plants into the ground on March 1st.

I am thinking of growing that again, as back when I grew them - last about 6 years ago - they did great! Only problem was the last season I grew them was very hot, and they were not heat resistant, and didn't come back quickly, like some other cherries - same problem with the Green Tiger, which did great, otherwise. Sunrise was the earliest to ripen 2 of the seasons, even beating Sunsugar - my usual first to ripen. And I would frequently harvest a 4 qt bowl from just 2 plants, with great flavor.

Who knew you could buy a commercial Sunrise Bumblebee seedling?!?! What kind of place was it where you bought it?

I bought it at a Houston Garden Center. There are many locations in the Houston area. The nurseries are easily recognizable by their distinctive yellow and red striped awnings.

Sunrise Bumblebee is an excellent cherry. I grow 20 cherries a year and always try to squeeze it in because it's dependable and does well for me even in bad seasons. I love the taste and the coloring as well. IMO its the best of the Bumblebees.

I grew it last year and it was a nice, productive cherry. I trialed Tropical Sunset on the other end of the row from Sunrise Bumblebee since they're so similar and I liked Tropical Sunset slightly better. But Sunrise Bumblebee is definitely worth growing and is a tasty cherry.

On May 1st, the fruits are showing their stripes.

Looking good, @SpookyShoe! I just planted all of my tomatoes today, including 2 sunrise. Oh yeah, I also planted one of the Tropical Sunset.

I'm growing Sunrise BB this season. I'll be able to compare it to Blush, Matt's Hornet and Prairie Fire.

Might this be a Sunrise Bumblebee? It was in a pint of mixed cherries I got last week at the farmers market. I'd like to be able to save seeds to share and grow myself but don't want to propagate a mis-labeled cultivar. Are there any others it could be mistaken for? I'm going to the market again this morning and will ask the vendor if she knows. Usually when I do that it's a hired helper who isn't involved in the farm but I have a feeling these people might be the actual growers.

Looks like a Sunrise, but you'll have no way of knowing if the plants were isolated enough to get the Sunrise. You could try it, of course.

My buddy on the other side of the lake says sunrise bumblebee is his favorite cherry tomato and he’s growing Sungold.

Two years ago I bought a Sunrise Bumblebee at our local Shoprite grocery store out of curiosity and because I was amazed they carried it. It did well and I saved seeds. My gardening buddy, with whom I share seeds, asked to try it so we shall see if it comes true. Indeed a delicious variety, just not enough room this year. My only Cherry is Rosella Cherry.

Ha. It never occurred to me that ShopRite would have tomato plants, I always presume it's just flowers so I never bother looking.

Ours has all kinds of herbs, tomatoes, peppers, squash, etc. along with the flowers. Found one sole pot of curly parsley which yielded 10 seedlings after I separated them. For some reason no one was carrying the curly parsley around here, just the Italian flat. So you never know!

I tried Sunrise Bumblebee last year. It started well, but then we had a really hot, dry growing season. It stopped growing and sat at about 18 inches tall or so (I'd have to refer back to a post about it) until the heat broke later on. It then decided to grow but too late to be able to get anything from it. My Sunsugar opposite to it, grew well over double stacked 4 foot cages, up and over the garden fence with non-stop production regardless of temps. I didn't grow SB this year but guess what gets a return spot every year? My small garden just doesn't have room for finicky growers no matter how good the taste is supposed to be. I tell my chickens, if you don't lay, you don't stay. My thoughts are similar with my plant selection for my garden....
