Cool.

They neglected to mention Malva neglecta. It's supposed to be an important famine food in the Middle East, I think. It's pretty tasty (the roots, in particular), and grows easily; all parts of the plant are edible. It's a cold-hardy perennial. It's one of our most common weeds, but I've been wanting to cultivate it for a couple years now.

Interesting list, the biggest problem I see with it is that a lot of the fruit/flowers referred to would not be available under famine conditions.

My reading comprehension is not what it used to be..the first thing I did was click that link and look for Malva neglecta.

I have eaten Malva neglecta. We harvested it wild in Jordan and then they let me help process and cook and then consume it. It is called khobasy and they eat it all the time in season. They just eat the leaves.
