Here is my first post and first ever glog! I will update with more photos eventually, but here goes nothing!

Tomato start date - I utilized the instant pot for all seed germination (including Hercegovac - my large tomato competition entry plant): 3/26/22
Tomato seed transplant date - directly into 4" pots under lights (indoor growing): 4/1/22
Tomato seedlings transplanted into the garden: 5/22/22 (average plant height including Hercegovac was 14")

Here are current photos (Ill update w/ more photos of Hercegovac specifically soon!)..

That's so nice that your church allows it's members to garden on the grounds. Kudos to them!

Nice set up, G! I've been meaning to try a cattle panel or two arching over veg garden walkways but have never gotten around to it yet.

Are those peppers along the outside of the tomatoes?

Most definitely! I started a community garden servicing at-home church members and the local food pantry in 2020 since it was an unused plot of land on the church property. Now everyone loves visiting the garden, and I grow herbs and cut flowers to go along with the produce baskets we distribute weekly starting in August! This year I am only growing tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and flowers at the community garden and will save seeds from the first tomatoes.

Thank you! I had a terrible experience with hurricane force winds and broken tomato plants, so I put these up! Totally worth it and ultra stable! The only thing I don't like it the height, since I am 5'2" and need a chair to harvest the tomatoes at the top of the arches

@Gthegardener How far apart do you have the ends of the cattle panels? I'm short too and planning on using them. If I space them further out then I could lower them some.

@MissS I believe most of mine are 4 feet apart, but I honestly haven’t measured since I put them up!

My giant tomato competitor -hercegovac in all his glory (don’t mind his funky look right now, I had to eliminate a large sucker). He is about 24” tall this week after 4 weeks in the ground! I have fertilized for the second time today.

Other pictures: tomato trellis growth (compare to previous picture), first radish harvest, and snap pea explosion!

Well.. better late than never! It was a bit of a rough few months, so you will all have to forgive my absence! Here are my tomato results: I grew Hercegovenac and it produced two large tomatoes that weighed in at 1lb 12.7oz and 1lb 4oz. These are definitely the biggest I have ever grown personally and it was a very tasty tomato with classic tomato flavor! The first three photos below are my hercegovenac plant and the two biggest tomatoes I harvested with their weights, and the subsequent photos are for those who like myself are suffering tomato/gardening withdrawals at this time of the year! Looking forward to this growing season!

Your garden was gorgeous and certainly worth waiting for. That Hercegovenac is gorgeous and I'm glad to hear that it tastes good too. Did you grow it as you did all of your other tomatoes or did you do something special with it? Did you save seed and would you grow it again?

Thank you for your kind words! I did grow it single stem and largely in the same fashion that I grew all my other tomato plants last year! I stick to a biweekly fertilizer schedule for all of my tomato plants (in pots and in ground) - aquaflakes parts a&b, cal magic, silica, and mycorrhizae. I did save seeds and I would probably grow it again because it was a vigorous and sturdy plant that was moderately productive and had relative disease resistance.

Wow! Those were huge tomatoes! And the rest of your garden turned out super duper as well. So a new year begins. Any changes you think you'll make based on last year's results? Every new year is exciting!

Thank you so much! I think i'll be continuing to use the trellis for my tomatoes as I've been able to grow a lot more plants with this method! I'm going to do a large container garden this year so I will be potting many micro and dwarf tomatoes and pepper plants!
