Tomato decision For Next Year

Currently the tomatoes live in two spots. Fourteen are down in the garden in buckets and on pallets because of a bacterial wilt in the soil that only kills the tomatoes. These tomatoes are in full sun all day and I've had to try to shade them.

The other fifteen live similarly up next to the house where they get about seven hours of sun a day. They're much happier and produce more.

We've decided that next year we can move the garden tomatoes up to the house. If the current line of pallets is moved toward the house a little then there's enough room to put the second row next to them and leave a few feet of space between the two to walk between them. There will also be netting around the whole shebang to discourage the squirrels. The whole thing will be set up over the winter so we'll be ready to go next spring.

@GoDawgs that sounds like plan! What will go in the place where the unhappy tomatoes live ?
The behaviour of light means you observe me as i was then, and not as I am now.
I cannot change history, so I do hope i gave you a good impression of myself

@Amateurinawe, I might plant some corn in rows again or maybe just let it go fallow for a year.

No doubt, some shade is a good thing for tomatoes in hot, lower latitude places. Tomato growing isn’t a one size fits all type of deal.
Zone 9b, located in the Columbia bottomlands, annual rainfall 46”
