2023/2024 wish lists

For tomatoes, participants may pick up to 25 specific varieties. After that, list the types of tomatoes you'd like (and the types of tomatoes you do not wish for, if any).

This thread is also for wish lists of peppers, either specific varieties, or types.

It is also for any other fruit/veggie/flower seed, although specific varieties very well may not be available. The coming "spoiler alert" thread is where participants can post what they will be sending in. Picking from those lists for your wish lists gives a much better chance of receiving what is requested. It can't all be guaranteed, as sometimes requests exceed seeds sent in.

When posting a wish list, please post just one message, and then edit it the 100 or more times if necessary. When you say you've edited your list for the last time, I'll wait for your next, and final, editing.

It would be greatly appreciated if I receive a paper copy of your wish list and sending in list along with your seeds.

For the Nifty Fifty (sending in either 50 packs of a single variety, or roughly 25 packs each of two varieties, mostly tomatoes, perhaps a few peppers), requires an OK from me in a private PM. Please do not post what you would be sending into that category of the swap, as some of the MMMM should remain a mystery.

I will probably have blue Nigella out the wazoo. I've added it to my list to save this season.

i am on the look out for any proven hardy hard neck garlic for the great white north.
i have music, and, a couple other varieties, so it is wide open. has to be hard neck, the
soft neck garlic just doesn't do well for long here.

dwarf project tomatoes other than perths pride, and summer time gold which i already have.
early to mid season preferred due to not having a late season that doesn't involve frost, and a snow flake or two.
any newer early tomatoes
not a big fan of green when ripe. they don't seem to do well here.
peppers
those in the early sweet category
jimmy nardello in case sandhill is out or i forget to order it like last year.

greens
we like kale, collards, brussells sprouts, trouble growing consistent sprouts however, asian greens, lettuces, bibb, loose leaf, nevada we get
from sandhill. that one is a good heading lettuce.
a pipe dream
i used to grow a vining zucchini from my great uncle steve. the squash were a lighter green with darker green specking, no
stripes if i recall. i haven't grown it in over 30 years due to a seed mishap, so memory might be fuzzy. i keep looking for something similar.

a few seeds of tetsukabuto, it got better later. my wife likes it. trying to collect seeds from the hybrid, but there aren't a lot of mature
seeds so far. is this by design from the breeder???

beans
nothing specific other than we like them. bush, snap or mid season pole beans

flowers
these were very pleasing to the church ladies last year.
any marigolds, zinnias, sun flowers, or pretty, colorful, fragrant things would be appreciated.

I assume if a hard-necked variety grows here in Ontario, it will grow for you.

Might be worth checking out these sites for what they sell to get some ideas.

I've heard that German Extra Hardy withstood some days of 60 below zero in upstate New York, which normally only gets to 30 or 40 below.

It has very few, but massive cloves, that will not fit in any standard garlic press. When I grow garlic, it is the only variety where I plant several dozen cloves. Anything else just gets a few test plants.

I think that I have a few vining zucchini in the collection. And, I just added a new one a few days ago, Incredible Escalator (from Renee's Garden).

For this season, or next?

I have Nahuelbuta Pink, and will be acquiring Lynwood (soon, hopefully).
These can wait for next year unless you would like them grown out this year. I usually leave a slot or two open for last minute inspirations/whims/changes of heart.

Right now I'm pretty set on tomatoes, so I'm also throwing out a list of natives that interest me in case anyone happens to have them growing on their property and could collect them for the next swap. Also I added a few at the bottom that I could potentially collect adn send in if there's an interest.

My wish list:

Tomato:
-Orange Ghabbana

Other:
-Musk strawberry (seeds from larger fruited variety like Capron)

Midwest, NE Native berries & wildflowers:
-Native Purple Phlox (Phlox paniculata, Phlox divaricata, Phlox stolonifera, etc.)
-Jerusalem Artichoke (true seed from different strain) (Helianthus tuberosus)
-Prairie Dock
-Wild Daylilies
-Wild Iris
-Wild American Black Currant
-Wild blackberries that produce well
-Wild huckleberries and blueberries
-Wild ramps

Native prairie grass:
-Big bluestem
-Indian Grass
-Squirrel Tail
-Other ecological & ornamental native grasses

What I have and could collect seeds from:

What I could potentially collect & submit to Mmmm if there's an interest (need to know ASAP if there's an interest because there are narrow collection windows & some require moist stratification):
-Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)
-Celandine Poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum)
-Wild Ginger (maybe) (Asarum canadense)
-Wild Chicory (Cichorium intybus)
-Wild Strawberry (Fragaria virginiana)
-Ironweed (Vernonia gigantea)
-Paw Paw (Asimina triloba)
-Jerusalem Artichoke (true seed) (Helianthus tuberosus)

Sorry if my original post was confusing. I just edited it so it's hopefully more clear. The list on the bottom is what I have and can collect whereas the lists above are what I'd love to have if someone happens to have easy access to plants growing in their yard.

I'll make a point then of saving Paw Paws, Jerusalem Artichokes, and Wild Strawberries since I have those readily available and can add others if there's interest. My Paw Paws are wild natives, but they're of good quality, not far off from some of the named cultivars I've sampled. Another thing I didn't list is I do have rust resistant European Black Currents that I could also save seeds from. All of these listed are easy access for me, so no problem at all.

I'll see what else I can find too then. I know there's buffalo grass south of the bluestem. Probably other grasses too. I just don't have names for most of them.

I have many wild blueberry bushes in the yard, neglected the past two years. Mostly high bush, but some low bush. I'll have to likely use netting on them, in order to save berries and seeds. I have one high bush that is of the so-called "black" type, as it has no cloudy cast on the berries, it's just a somewhat shiny black color. I currently cannot recall the latin name for this type.

Lots of huckleberries about 3 miles down the road, but I don't recall when they ripen, meaning another thing to look up.

Then there is the mountaintop swamp about 5 miles away, 1 1/2 miles of paved road, 1 1/2 miles of dirt road, and two miles of steep, rough, rocky hiking trails, to get to. Hundreds of high bush blueberries surrounding the swamp. Ticks, mosquitoes, coyotes, bears, moose (singular, so far), rattlesnakes, the very rare mountain lion, and the most dangerous of all, gun toting drug dealing humans, are possible sightings.

My high bush blueberries are from cuttings of plants from that swampy area. Some blueberry bushes are very old. The moose beds down under one of them, having a trunk about 6 inches in diameter, and being about 16 feet high.

If I can, I'll take a hike up there, this year. I haven't gone there in about 4 years. To get to the swamp, I have to pass through the dry areas, where there are plenty of low bush blueberries. Roughly, the 1st of July is when I first go looking for ripe berries.
